One Hundred Fourty FIve

As soon as the boss’s minion took the paper, giggling, she left to deliver the missive. She smiled at thinking about the look on the boss’s face would be.

Maybe a tenth of a second after the door closed, both Bhuwakul and Yeji turned with mechanical precision and looked at her. By some unspoken accord, Bhuwakul spoke for the pair; “What happened, Seulgi?”

The question was hard as iron. I was spoken by a wrathful demon who was ready to do physical harm. They knew something happened, they wanted to know what. If there was someone who perpetrated the harm they had better beg whatever god they believed in for mercy, for they would get none here.

Rather than say anything, she unbuttoned the cuffs on her sleeve and rolled both up to her elbow. That was enough to effect a response.

Bhuwakul ground out a question, “How much more?” She showed them the pictures on her phone but turned away in as much shame and embarrassment as remembered pain. They heard a small whimper as she turned away. They did not know if it was physical or mental pain that caused the sound. It didn’t matter, their Seulgi was hurt.

They thought that they knew rage before. Then they looked at the pictures. They became Fury incarnate. Yeji pced her hand on Bhuwakul's forearm and pointed to Seulgi with her chin. Again, that telepathic communication worked. They both calmed down to manageable levels.

  “Seulgi?” Yeji asked softly. “Honey?”

All they got in response was quiet sobs. Quiet, forlorn, and perversely embarrassed.

They stood up in tandem. They walked forward at the same time as well. He put his hand on her shoulder, saying nothing. She took Seulgi’s head and held her in her bosom, letting her cry herself out. They didn’t know that this was the second time today.

Seulgi gathered herself. She reached up a hand to squeeze Bhuwakul’s. She put an arm around Yejis slender waste and patted her on the back. They both got a ghost of a quiet “Thank you.”

She turned around to face them. Drying her reddened eyes. She then rolled down the turtleneck and showed them the hand prints. This time, it was Bhuwakul who held Yeji’s fury.

But, they knew that the stakes had been raised.

She began the story by her sending everyone home. Yeji confirmed that Nayeon and her had been over st night. Then Seulgi continued with the steps she took to shut down for the night. She went step by step, leaving nothing out

Then the assumptions came. She described the state of her bed upon waking. She told about the pain all over her skin. She described the damage to the pajamas, and the sting of the water in the shower. She did not mention the vomiting, as it would not add to the narrative.

She then told of how she searched the house and found nothing amiss.

Throughout the narrative, both of her avatars were silent. The furious focus would have been terrifying if she had been the subject of the gaze rather than being the focus.

She then opened them to questions. She knew that there would be a torrent. And there was one. It was a tag team of the softest, most gentle interrogation ever. Both took turns asking things that the other was thinking or hadn’t thought of yet. They wrung every detail that she could remember. And even some details that she had missed herself, but were still stuck in her memory.

Yeji let out a small moan at the thought of a blood covered Suki. She was relieved to find out that she was not actually harmed.

This took a lot of the morning, and Seulgi had to stop it. She told them that she drove today and would like them to escort her to the car for lunch when she was going home to see her father. She told them that he would be staying there for a few days. They were welcome to come over after work and they could continue the conversation. But, until then, get out! She had stuff to do.

Bhuwakul and Yeji smiled at her for that. That was closer to the Seulgi that they knew and loved. They complied and Seulgi got busy. She worked her email folder like mad. She had actually cleared eighty percent of the backlog before addressing the other pending work.

She made a couple of phone calls. She had to call one manager and tell him that she would send Yeji to break the fingers of one overly ‘friendly’ person on his line. If that did not discourage bad behavior, she would take a very personal interest in this particur manager. And that put the Fear Of Seulgi into his heart and the situation was quite firmly resolved.

Due to recent events, Seulgi had a more bloodthirsty style of dealing with people recently. Some people admired it, but the subject rarely did.

Even Taeyeon heard about Seulgi’s change of style and decided to leave that one alone for now. She was there for fun, not confrontation. She also knew that annoying her would mean annoying those around her. She did not want to test that. She had no desire to get disappeared.

Eleven-thirty came and Seulgi started putting things away and getting ready to head home. She knew that she still had a lot to do, so she was taking her work computer home with her as well. Fifteen minutes ter, her henchpeople showed up to escort her down to her car. They gave the appearance of jovial conversation and going to lunch when they were anything but.

They made it down to the car park without incident. Unfortunately, she had to park further from the door than usual. There were a lot of other cars there today for some reason. Probably because the weather forecast called for rain tonight.

They chatted as they always did as if they didn’t have a care in the world when a two meter tall figure ghosted between cars behind them. Yeji and Bhuwakul automatically turned around as the figure pulled a very sharp knife out from behind him.

Both of her minions let forth their war cries as they both grabbed his arm and shoulder to immobilize him while kicking his knee from behind, knocking him to the ground. They moved as if they had practiced this maneuver hundreds of times together. Their smooth teamwork was incredible to watch despite the horror of the situation.

Bhuwakul was less than gentle when he broke the giant’s right humerus like a twig and forced him to drop the knife.

Before anything else could happen, a fsh of light strobed from behind them, nearly blinding Seulgi who was facing that direction. A localized thundercp deafened them as well and Seulgi was punched in the gut by something.

Then, she was sprayed in the face with some liquid and peppered with something small all over her face and the front of her body.

In horror, she noticed that it was blood. Lots of blood and what appeared to be bone fragments. She had the wherewithal to notice that the giant who appeared behind them with intent to attack them now had a fist-sized hole in his forehead. She found that what had hit her in the stomach was a mushroom shaped bullet.

The giant fell limply to the ground without a hint of life in his eyes.

Before anyone could react, another tiny figure materialized behind them. This figure held a gun out to the right and said “Get rid of this and clean this mess.” Another ghostly figure took the weapon and left. Three more people started to take the giant and ran. Others came out and started cleaning anything that could be used as evidence.

Seulgi knew that voice. Jeong-Hui walked up to her, took a handkerchief out, and started cleaning her face.

She looked Seulgi in the eyes, then she leaned forward to kiss her forehead, and said, “Remember, dear, we take care of our own.”
