Memoryless Reunion

What is this disgusting, dirty place?

  Nero looked around.

At another glance, the place doesn’t seem so bad. The ceilings are high—a bit too high, even. The marble’s lovely. Its dim white glow makes it that much more pleasing to the eyes. There’s even greenery here—lots of flowers and decorative shrubs. The pillars, too, are nothing short of majestic in shape and stature. Is this place some sort of shrine? But even then, this seems too expensive for a simple shrine dedicated to some local god or goddess. There must be something more, or maybe not. Well, I should look around.

Nero walked to the heart of the chamber, shocked to see an active hearth.

Fire? That can’t be—no one’s here. Or is there?

Nero glanced around until he saw a beautiful woman with pink hair relaxing in a pond, naked.

Nice—a sight for sore eyes. First time I’ve seen a woman—my opposite gender. No wonder I chose the right gender… or sex or whatever it’s called. To approach her or not? What’s this feeling? Why do I feel like I want to be near her? Oddly familiar. Yeah, I should go there.

Nero went where the woman was with careful steps, but his tall shadow alerted her. She turned around while covering her breasts with her hand, looking at Nero with a serious yet neutral face.

  “Who are you?”

She didn’t say anything, averting her eyes, embarrassed.

“May I have the pleasure of knowing your name?”

  She said nothing.

Am I coming off a bit too strong? She’s shy. Maybe I should just introduce myself—that way, at least I might appear a bit less hostile.

“I am Nero, the God Blessed by Roses, if you believe Servantus—also a new god.”

I hope I’m doing this right.

  She looked at Nero.

“I am Sakura, Priestess of Yamato.”

  “I see. Who’s Yamato?”

“A God of Wisdom from around here. You don’t know?”

“Never heard of him—I’m new here. So, are you the Priestess of Yamato, or are you one among many?”

“I am the Priestess of Yamato.”

“The only one? All right. That’s strange. What’s the Priestess of Yamato doing here naked?”

  Not that I dislike it.

She turned her gaze again, embarrassed.

“I saw a dream, and it told me to come here.”

Very vague, and I don’t believe it.

A flash of memories went through Nero’s mind.

Wait, what? Why do I know the dream she saw? She was telling the truth? I fucked her?

  “Was the dream erotic?”

Yeah, good work not sounding like a creepy, ugly man.

  She said nothing.

“Did you see me in the dream?”

She dipped deeper down in the pond to hide her body—only her neck and up could be seen.

  “It was a dream. I don’t know—I can’t recall.”

Nero eyed her for a few moments.

“Who would have thought the Priestess of Yamato would be a liar?”

“I’m not a liar, and what are you even talking about? Are you simple?”

  Nero’s stance grew wider.

“It was me you saw in the dream, wasn’t it? We fucked, right?”

“What? I don’t even know you. How could I dream about you?”

“That makes sense, but I know you’re lying.”

Nero disrobed, while Sakura simply stared at his penis, almost amazed.

“What in the heavens? What do you think you’re doing?”

  “Making myself comfortable.”

  “Get away from me, pervert!”

“I know where your eyes are.”

She turned and swam farther away from him.

“Where do you think you’re going?”

He jumped into the pond, feeling the cool water, while Sakura swam on.

“I won’t let you touch me!”

  “I wasn’t thinking about that—I am a gentleman, I swear.”

  She halted.

“A gentleman doesn’t undress himself before a lady like that. I don’t know where you’re from, but the standards of civility are quite different here.”

“Forgive me, but I was feeling too hot, you see. I didn’t know any better. Surely, you understand?”

She contorted her face—a not-so-subtle hint of concern.

  “I hope I haven’t scared you, lady priestess. Don’t worry, I won’t do anything.”

She relaxed somewhat, looking him in the eyes.

  “If you say so.”

  He smiled.

“So what are you actually doing here all alone?”

  She said nothing.

“Are you alone, or are there others?”

  She said nothing.

“A proper lady would know better than to keep silent when she’s asked a question.”

  She frowned.

“My business is my own—a proper gentleman knows better than to pry into a lady’s affairs.”

  He laughed.

“And you are a proper lady, all naked in a pond with a stranger?”

She looked at him with ferocity, connoting a tinge of annoyance and readiness.

“And you are a proper gentleman, undressing before a woman out of nowhere and accusing her of lies?”

Both paused for a moment. Nero gazed at her face and hair swirling in the pond, wanting her to be more pampering to him.

“I’m going back to the chamber. If you have anything to say, you’ll find me there.”

Nero got out of the pond and dressed himself, going back whence he came, while Sakura stared at him while he headed back.
