Chapter 4

  A month.

A month has passed since Dagron and Abyss have been freed. A month since they've returned and freed their kind and things have never been better.

For the first time in centuries, Dragons have been living peacefully on their Isle with nobody and nothing to interrupt them. Dagron and Abyss have been peacefully ruling over their Isle, their friends always by their side.

One day, they were all relaxing outside and bathing in the warmth of the sun when one dragon spotted a ship on the horizon and alerted the others.

"A ship on the horizon" Dagron asked.

Him and the others all squinted and it indeed looked like a ship.

"I can go investigate and report back" said Acidstorm.

"OK, but remain invisible at all times and stay quiet" said Dagron.

Acidstorm nodded silently before he took flight and flew towards the ship, turning completely invisible along the way. He landed on nearby sea stacks to listen. It appeared to be some kind of fishing boat.

"Load up our catch" said a fisherman.

"Hey, has that island always been there" another fisherman asked.

"I don't know. Has it" a third fisherman asked.

"Who knows. There was always a thick fog around these parts. Come on" the first fisherman replied.

With that they grabbed the nets full of fish and began to load them up.

"Humans catching fish, here? Oh, they will not get away with this" Acidstorm thought.

He quickly flew back to the Isle and landed, tired from flying too fast. Dagron, Abyss and everyone else immediately noticed.

"Whoa, whoa, what happened" Dagron asked.

  "Humans catching fish" Acidstorm replied.

Everyone was taken aback as they looked at each other before looking back at the ship on the horizon. Shock soon turned into anger.

"Humans stealing our food" Abyss growled.

Dagron looked around at the other dragons that were present.

"Go and take their catch. If they try anything, you know what to do" he ordered.

The other dragons around smiled gleefully as they took off and headed towards the ship. The fishermen on the ship finished loading up their catch and were sailing away when they heard something behind them.

They all turned around and immediately became wide eyed and shocked to see a few dozen dragons flying around and surrounding them. Two dragons managed to grab the nets full of fish and fly back to the Isle with them.

"Hey! T-that's ours" one of the fishermen shouted.

All the dragons simply glared, growled and puffed at them before flying back to the Isle.

"D-did that just happen" a fisherman asked.

"If that, you mean dragons showing up out of nowhere and stealing our catch? Yeah, t-that just happened" another fisherman replied.

The dragons took all of the fish back to the Isle and put them in one of many icy underground caves where food was stored.

Despite their sheer size, dragons don't need to eat very often. They can actually go months without food. Food is regularly caught and stored within caves that are then covered in ice. The food is also incased in ice to keep it fresh, the frozen caves keeping the air cool so the frozen food doesn't melt. Dragons that can shoot ice are in charge of making sure the food remains frozen, doesn't spoil and isn't stolen.

After leaving the nets, all of the dragons returned to their king and queen to report back.

"It's done, your highness. The catch those humans caught is ours now and has been stored away in one of the caves" said a dragon.

  "Excellent" said Dagron.

"And the humans? Did they offer any resistance" Abyss asked.

"None in the slightest" another dragon replied.

Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.

  "Good work" said Abyss.

"That takes care of that, but be on high alert! Any ships that come near this isle to catch fish, will be surrounded and have their catch taken. Humans will not hunt us anymore and humans will not steal our food either" said Dagron.

Every dragon around them smiled and nodded silently.

Later that evening, in his and Abyss' den, Dagron was looking through old writings, tablets and scrolls that he requested. Earlier in the day, he overheard a few dragons talking about the Isle needing a sort of guardian to watch over it and protect it from all danger. That reminded Dagron of something that he heard when he was a lot younger and it gave him an idea.

"What are you reading" Abyss asked him.

"Just looking through these old scrolls, tablets and writings" he replied.

  "About what" Abyss asked him.

"Ever heard that old legend about the titans" he asked her.

"Of course! What dragon hasn't heard that story" she replied.

Long ago, before most life began, Titans roamed the Earth. These titans helped the gods create the mountains, glaciers and other parts of the ecosystem for life to blossom. After life on Earth began to blossom and grow into something more, these titans went into a sort of hibernation in very remote places around the world, ready to heed the call and rise to defend and shield all life from evil. Three of these titans were dragons.

The first was Doomfire, a giant wyvern with dark stone scales, fiery insides, spiky armored hide, large horns, four yellow eyes and a bottom jaw that can split open in two. The second was Quetzalcoatl, a giant amphiptere with white and blue scales, black quills and green and purple feathers going down his back, two giant white feathered wings, four yellow eyes with the top of his head covered in big spines and two enormous tusks. Finally, there was Thunderwing, another giant long amphiptere with dark blue and black scales, spikes going down his back, ten wings, spikes on his tail, two large horns and two red eyes.

Doomfire's hide was impenetrable. He was able to shoot big fireballs and breathe fire that is able to incinerate anything in a matter of seconds.

Quetzalcoatl could create large gusts of wind simply by blowing or flapping his massive wings. He could also shoot beams of ice that could instantly freeze anything they hit.

Thunderwing can conduct and control lightning to do almost anything, so much so that it's been said that this titan has a dark storm cloud around it at all times. He can fire massive blasts of lightning that can electrocute and fry anything in their path.

"Call me crazy, but I've been thinking...what if the legend was more than just a legend" said Dagron.

"You really think the titans are out there somewhere? Hibernating" Abyss asked him.

"Yeah, according to these texts, tablets and scrolls. The three titans went to hibernate in different places around the world" he replied.

"And you think the titans can be woken up and act as the eternal guardians of the Isle" said Abyss.

  Dagron smiled.

"Looks like I'm not the only one who heard that conversation" he said.

Abyss smiled and crossed her arms.

"OK, hot stuff. Where do we start" Abyss asked him.

"Doomfire, supposedly, is the closest, hibernating in the inactive volcano we have near the Isle. Thunderwing sleeps peacefully in a huge cavern in the tallest mountain in the world and finally, Quetzalcoatl went to hibernate somewhere in the coldest place on Earth" he replied.

"Because of your abilities, you're technically the only one on the entire Isle that can swim in lava" said Abyss.

"Leave Doomfire to me. If we can wake him up and get him to cooperate, there's a good chance he can help us find his brothers" said Dagron.

"Gotta say, honey. This plan of yours is crazy, but...it's crazy enough that it might actually work" said Abyss.

  Dagron smiled.

"What I do, my dear, I do for the good of all dragons. No matter how crazy it may sound" he said.

  The next day...

Dagron and Abyss gathered their close friends and told them the idea they had.

"I won't be surprised if you guys laugh and call us crazy" said Dagron.

"It does sound crazy, but if it's true and actually works, we won't have to worry about any outside threat to hurt us ever again" said Groundspliter.

"You absolutely sure about this, Dagron" Hunterbolt asked him.

"Yes, I'm sure. My grandpa also believed the legend to be more than just a legend. If it is just a legend, then I'm wrong. However, if it's actually true" Dagron was cut off.

"We can all relax and enjoy our lives while the titans watch over us and protect us" said Abyss.

"Sounds like a plan" said Smokescreen.

"Where do we start" Frost asked.

"You ladies just enjoy yourselves and relax. Hunter, Smoke, Acid, you're with me" Dagron replied.

  "Alright! Let's go" said Acidstorm.

  "Good luck" said Abyss.

They took flight and took off towards the nearby inactive volcano.

"You think they'll pull it off" Bansha asked.

"Dagron's the only one who can swim and dive in lava. They'll absolutely pull it off" Abyss replied.

On the way to the volcano, Dagron, Hunterbolt, Acidstorm and Smokescreen talked.

"Ah, this reminds of me of the good old days. Just the 4 of us flying around, having the times of our lives" said Smokescreen.

"Yeah, there's something nostalgic about this" said Acidstorm.

"Then we met the girls and life became a lot nicer" said Hunterbolt.

"Yeah, Dagron met Abyss and YOU met Frost" said Acidstorm.

  "Wait, what" Hunter asked.

"Wait, Hunter, you have a crush on Frost" Dagron asked him.

"Shut up! I don't have a crush on Frost" he replied.

"Really? Then why are you blushing right now" Dagron asked him.

"I...she's just nice to be around, OK" he replied.

"Sure, Hunter, old pal. Sure, she is" said Smokescreen.

"You are one to talk with your crush on Bansha" said Hunterbolt.

  "What" Dagron and Acidstorm exclaimed.

  "I...I do not" said Smokescreen.

  "Smokescreen, seriously" Acidstorm asked him.

"No...I...I don't like Bansha" he replied.

"You do realize that if you two ever argue, she can literally give you an earful, right" Dagron asked him.

"C-can we please change the subject" Smokescreen asked, frantically.

  "Sure, guys. Sure" said Acidstorm.

"What about you, Acid? Anyone on your mind" Dagron asked him.

"No, unfortunately, nobody yet" he replied.

  "Really" Dagron asked him.

"Yeah, I...I guess I just haven't met the right dragon yet" he replied.

"You'll meet that special someone someday, my friend. Someday" said Dagron.

Acidstorm smiled as they arrived at the volcano.

"OK, we're here. What now" Hunterbolt asked.

Dagron said nothing as he pulled out his staff from his back and placed it on the ground.

"You guys wait right here. I'll go as deep as I can and look around for our first titan" he said.

  "Will do" said Smokescreen.

Dagron then took a deep breath, flew up and then dived right into the volcano.
