Chapter 22: Appetizer

During the peaceful days, Ron, apart from studying psychic techniques, was training his use of the long sword and occasionally going to the town with Helen to familiarize themselves with the environment. But the peace didn't last long.

"AAAAAAAH!" A heart-rending scream pierced the long night of Innocent Town and also "awakened" Ron who was sensing psychic energy. He opened his eyes and looked around. Surprisingly, he found that a little moonlight had shone on the ground in the distance. But as the black clouds in the sky churned, before he even had the thought of going out to look at the moon, that ray of light disappeared without a trace.

The scream in the distance was hard for ordinary people to hear clearly at this position, but many residents closer to the town center must have been awakened. Had it started? For the nobles entering the town, tonight's tragedy was just an appetizer for embellishment and a small "surprise" given by Innocent Town to them. For Ron, this was a warning painted with blood. But for the commoners in the town, this was a terrifying nightmare seeping into reality. This definitely wouldn't be the first commoner to die, and they hadn't yet realized how long this horror drama would last in their lives.

Fragmented sounds of boots came from the street in the distance. In the town, those who wore iron boots were basically members of the patrol team. The leaders of these teams were all knights. These knights were also commoners in the town in the past and were all assigned to the guards when they entered the town. Several of them stopped at the cemetery gate and were dealing with the iron gate.

Ron glanced at the long sword by the wall and then sat on the bed, quietly waiting for the patrol team to arrive. [A blood servant individual of level I - 2 was detected.]

Boom. The wooden door of the house was roughly pushed open, and three patrol team members walked in. The one in the lead was a knight, and the other two were humans. "Is it you?" the blood servant asked in surprise. This intruder was exactly the blood servant Ron had talked to a few words at the town gate and who had shown him the way. Although they recognized each other, the blood servant still looked vigilant. Coincidence? "Why aren't you asleep?" he asked.

Ron replied, "I'm the cemetery keeper. It's my working time now." He looked down at Helen who was still sleeping. First, he was surprised by her sleeping appearance. Then he noticed that she was sleeping on the floor. Then he thought of the recent rumors. The blood servant had long heard of Helen, a beauty who had become a bit famous since she came to the town. Now it seemed that the rumor that she and her lover were about to separate was true. Many of his colleagues had been interested in her long ago, but they had stopped for a while after being politely refused a few times. He believed that if this wasn't Innocent Town, those guys would have already made a move. But it was precisely because this was Innocent Town that they could become knights like himself. He recalled Ron's state when they first met and finally decided to show kindness to him.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

"I'm Rich. There are some accidents in the town. We're checking. I have some questions to ask you." Rich looked at the team members behind him. They hurriedly and nervously left the house and closed the door casually.

Ron was a bit surprised. "What's the matter?"

Rich said, "People have died in the town. I heard there were three victims. Their deaths were extremely ugly. It is said that they seemed to have been toyed with by wild beasts for a long time before being killed. There are rumors among the guards that werewolves have sneaked into the town."

  Ron was puzzled. "Werewolves?"

Rich nodded. "They usually look no different from ordinary humans, but they can transform into huge wolf-like monsters at any time. They have extremely powerful strength and have been the most troublesome problem that noble lords have hated for hundreds of years."

Ron said, "But this is Lady Elizabeth's territory..."

Rich shook his head. "That's why I'm especially worried. Everyone knows that making trouble here is a very dangerous thing. Therefore, they must have strong confidence. Otherwise, they couldn't have made a move in the town. I even suspect that their purpose is to provoke the lady. So you'd better keep a low profile during this time. But that's not what I want to talk about."

Ron had already suspected that the other party might be part of the "ball". But according to the information he had collected so far, these blood servants transformed from townspeople didn't know the truth of Innocent Town.

Ron looked confused. "Then, Knight Sir..."

Rich lowered his voice. "Based on the friendship of our conversation, answer me a question first. Do you have some conflicts with your partner?"

Ron naturally showed a look of embarrassment. "Yes, we have a little..."

Rich interrupted, "That's okay. What I want to tell you is that a colleague of mine named Shane has taken a liking to Helen. And I heard that he plans to play some tricks on you two. That guy was a bastard before becoming a knight and killed many innocent weaklings. Although he doesn't dare to break Lady's rules now, he is very good at doing disgusting things. After all, he is a knight, and that in itself is the most useful thing. He has already abandoned seven or eight beautiful women, and Helen is his next target. If you still care about this girl, you can remind her."

Rich's reminder was aimed at Ron rather than Helen herself. That is to say, what he really cared about was not whether Helen was deceived. His target was Ron. He didn't care much about whether Ron told Helen about this or what her outcome would be.

  Ron nodded slightly. "Thank you."

This Shane might be part of the story or just a stupid fool. But in any case, those nobles behind the scenes would be very happy to see him "take away" Helen.

But it's not a good idea to let Helen stay in a place where he can't take care of her for a long time. After all, he still hasn't been able to give Helen power, and this is also a problem that must be solved. Otherwise, just relying on himself, he can't change the current situation of the blood clan's rule. Maybe he can kill all the vampires, but considering their numbers, as long as they crazily transform mortals, it's very likely that when he kills the last blood clan member, there won't be any intelligent creatures left on the Blood Plain.

Rich finally said to him, "There may be several rounds of patrols later. If the murderer is caught, it may stop. Before that, you'd better not wander around. I also have to return to my post."

Ron nodded at him. After seeing him lead two civilians who were obviously a little afraid of him out, he sat back on the bed and waited for the end of the patrol. But until dawn, he could still hear the guards busy on the street.
