Yo, Alex, what’s autism like for you?

(RANDOM DAY AT SCHOOL, ALEX POV)

It’s kinda noisy in here and I really should start on the math homework I’ve been trying to start for the past hour …

Where are the noise cancelling headphones?

Oh, they’re right infront of me.

I know they’re mine to use because of the way the reflection from the ceiling lights looks on it.

And then the color processes in my mind.

  Those are black.

And those go on my head.

I just need to grab them.

  …

  Come on body.

You know how to pick something up.

Wait! No! Why are they being held upside down?

Uh… wait… turn… OWW! The headphones! Not your wrist!

  Uh… other hand… yep.

Now the head piece is ontop and the headphones are downwards so I can put them on-

  OWW! That’s my mouth!

  Eww, these taste awful.

I take the headpiece off my mouth slowly, worried I’m gonna drop my headphones or something.

That would be a loud sound. We don’t do that here.

Then I gently put the headpiece back between my lips because I’m trying to confirm I actually tasted the headphones.

Is that what my hair tastes like?

When was the last time I washed my hair?

My wrists are starting to feel kind of weak…

I push the headpiece against my top lip because…

I guess my body likes the pressure?

I have no clue what’s happening.

  What IS happening?

  Oh! Thing!

Wait- body- stop that- that probably looks so bad!

I remember that’s not what I was even trying to do, so I hold my headphones infront of me again.

Okay, this time I got it.

I push the head phones apart then slip my head between the ear coverings.

  Alright! We did it!

It’s nice and quiet now and I can really focus!

Now we just gotta do the same thing with… everything else…
