Dreams of Utica updates several folktales, in particular Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll, in a post apocalyptic Africa evoking Mad Max, and a cyberpunk world. The book’s structure is based on that of Homer’s Odyssey, and uses its episodes (e.g. dangers and monsters encountered, sailing in an unknown land, relationship to otherness.) The question of identity is challenged, what makes us still humans, when the machine and the virtual reality are more and more present. The topics are close to those in Blade Runer, Ghost in the Shell, Matrix, etc.
