The Evelstein Empire, Vorluna Capital City. The most technologically advanced city in the whole world. A city where dreams start, and opportunities sleep, waiting for people to come and take it. At least that’s how other people think of the city, but not Lucien, not anymore at least.
Lucien walked amongst the countless sea of people. Around him were people rushing, sometimes bumping into each other's shoulders without apologies. Extremely tall buildings stood in rows, holograms for various advertisements, flying surveillance drones, and the occasional robots that cleaned the front of a building or advertised to the people with AI generated voices handing fliers and the like.
‘How nostalgic.’
It’s been a long time since he saw a fully intact city. Much less the Vorluna Capital City which was one of the first to get destroyed. Lucien took out his phone, on his screen was a map leading towards a certain place. After wrestling with his memories, he remembered the university he applied to which was the Evelstein University, needless to say, it was the best university in the empire.
Since it was relatively closeby, Lucien didn’t need to use a subway.
‘Let’s see, if I remember correctly today, there will be an attack on the university examination site…’
The culprit of the attack were not terrorists. Though they do exist, the main culprit in this scenario were Chaos Entities. As for what Chaos Entity it is, Lucien forgot, it’s been a long time after all.
‘Well, for now. All I have to do is get to the university fast.’
Lucien then started running. He was afraid of being late to the scene of the crime. After all, he didn’t know the exact time, and if he did not do this right, he would lose the chance to naturally enter and integrate himself with the hidden world of Chaos.
Because of his rush, he inevitably bumped shoulders with some people. He ignored all of them who grumbled and even shouted at him, but then he crashed into a person who made a turn around the corner. Lucien rebalanced himself effortlessly while the man fell on his bum.
“Ugh, damn it! Watch out you bra-, hiik.”
The man who had a bad day, and was about to relieve some of his stress onto the kid who crashed into him, flinched, and his face turned pale.
‘His eyes!’
The kid’s blue eyes were like the abyss. Dark, deep, emotionless, the eyes akin to a killer, a monster!
“My apologies.” Lucien said before he ran again. He didn’t help the man up because he has no time for such things. After a while, a grand, majestic building appeared, the huge hologram above the humongous gates saying Evelstein University.
‘I have arrived!’ Lucien smiled, however he huffed and puffed, before he squatted down for a little while. He had forgotten that his body hasn’t been trained whatsoever, currently, he was just a decently athletic student, far from the trained Chaoswalker body he had in the past.
‘Gosh damn it! Lungs, breathe, breathe!’
Lucien breathed in and out, trying to calm his breathing. After a few minutes, he regained his stamina, stood up and approached the university gates. Fortunately, he was not late because chaos hadn't yet ensued inside. However, his way was then blocked by a man whom Lucien presumed to be a security guard.
“Sorry, student. This area is off limits.”
“Ah, I am here for the examination.”
The security guard raised one of his eyebrows.
“The examination started 30 minutes ago.”
‘Oh shit damn that’s why the university seemed so empty. Guess I took way too long trying to regain my memories and getting here.’ Lucien thought. He then decided to just smile.
“Haha, sorry about that. I had some very urgent business prior to this… Please let it go just this once, sir.”
The security guard frowned as he scanned Lucien up and down before sighing. Perhaps the security guard thought of him as a truant. But whatever he thought of, Lucien did not care.
“Fine, where is your ID card?”
“ID card?”
Lucien tilted his head.
‘Was there such a thing? I haven't become a student yet right?’
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Lucien truly did not remember. Perhaps the security guard predicted his thoughts from Lucien’s facial expression, he glared at Lucien.
“You! Are you even serious about applying here!? How could you even forget your examination ID card!?”
“Ahaha, sorry, sorry. An ID card, there must be one on my phone right?”
“It is a physical object and not an app and any sort of that! How do you not even know that!? Forget it, you’re not passing through. I bet you’re not even a student right?”
“Don’t be like that. Let me pass through please, I swear I’m a student. You can check it through the database, I can give you my name, and even phone number.”
“No means no, brat! Try passing through forcefully, and I will beat you up.”
“Tsk.”
Lucien’s smile turned into his cold, regular expressionless face. The security guard then flinched and stepped back. He then became a bit angry at himself for being intimidated by a mere student so he stood straight, and tall, glaring at Lucien.
‘Should I knock him out?’ Lucien thought. No matter even if he regressed back to an unathletic, powerless, body, he wouldn’t lose to a person without a gun in hand to hand combat. As he was about to move his hand, a sudden explosion came from the Evelstein University.
“What the-!?” The security guard reflexively looked back.
‘A chance!’ In a split second, Lucien lunged and skillfully dislocated the security guard’s neck with both arms. Not to kill but rather to knock him out without any injuries. The security guard was about to fall to the floor but Lucien caught him before it. He then dragged the security guard away from the city gates to a relatively safe place. Even if the security guard went there, he cannot do anything anyway, so might as well put him in a safe place.
After that was done, Lucien ran inside the university gates. He saw smoke coming out from a building and immediately headed there. In contrast to himself moving towards the building, he saw many people rushing out of the building, screaming as they all ran for their life, some even fell. If it was just a mere explosion there was no need to run like that but it would be a different scenario if someone or something was chasing after them.
Big purplish worms the size of a hand, shaped similar to a silkworm, ran in troves, their mouth opened wide with sharp teeths on it as they moved by bouncing their body. There were a lot of them, tens, even hundreds. Some had gotten to the students and bit them, while some fell and were about to be bitten.
“Aghh!”
“Damn it, what are even these things!”
Lucien frowned and ran even faster, pulling something out of his hood pocket as the item stretched into a black baton. A worm lunged at a girl, as she screamed with a shrill voice and closed her eyes. However, just before the worm bit her, Lucien smashed the baton onto it first, the baton made a crackling noise as electricity came and shocked the worm before the force sent it flying, its body ripped apart. The woman opened her eyes in shock at Lucien. But Lucien ignored her, charging straight through the horde of purple silkworms and shouted.
“Don’t panic! These worm’s bodies are weak and a human has enough strength to crush it with just his grip strength! Help the others too while you are at it!”
The male students, especially the athletic ones, immediately moved, and gripped the worms whether using their hands, or a certain technique they invented right at that moment. It worked as the worms then burst with a purplish liquid.
“Argh! What are these liquids!”
“Ignore them, let’s help the others and run! Hey, you aren’t running with us!?” A man shouted at Lucien.
“I have something to do over there.”
“T-then. Let us help!”
“No need, just help the others here. I will leave them to you.” Lucien said, his eyes then flickered before he rushed in towards a horde of worms. He tried his best to save as many people here, but now it was time to head forward towards his goal. Tens of worms lunged at him, however with great moves he dodged, smacked, grabbed and threw, regardless of how many worms had come at him, only a few would bite him, even then Lucien made sure they didn’t get to his vital areas. As he ran through like a slaughtering machine, enticing gasps from the other students. Lucien frowned.
‘My stamina is really trash, fucking hell!’ Lucien gritted his teeth, and endured. He never intended to duke it out with all these worms, therefore he slaughtered just enough to create a path and he managed to pierce through the horde, run towards the building, and went inside with the horde of worms on his trail. He entered a hallway, with many doors and rooms, however the hall itself was a mess. Clutters of worms eating, and feasting upon the corpses of students. The pungent smell of blood, disgusting smell of piss, and other smells mixed into it pierced Lucien’s nose.
The worms feasting on the corpses glanced at Lucien, however they immediately died due to a sudden stomp from Lucien. Since there were no doors, Lucien couldn’t block the worms chasing after him from the back, and if he entered one of the little classrooms, he would lose his chance to ‘awaken’ and integrate himself naturally as a Chaoswalker.
‘To awaken, I need to get closer to the source! To the Chaos Entity’s true body’
Thinking that, Lucien kept running, and moving through the halls. The purple worms lunged at him with differing numbers from the front, back, sides, up, down. The wounds on his body grew, blood spilled, Lucien’s baton, fist and leg had been covered with the worm’s liquid, and even the baton’s electricity dimmed with him using it as a mere tool to smash the worm. Lucien persisted in spite of his body, however, no matter how strong of a willpower he has, his body has its limits that differ from willpower alone. At his trembling legs, and sloppier movements, Lucien clicked his tongue.
‘No choice, I have to recuperate and rest first.’ Lucien ran towards the nearest room, and tried opening the door, it was locked.
‘Damn it!’ Lucien struggled with the door handle before he looked back and the tens and maybe hundreds of worms lunging at him. He gritted his teeth. However, in that split second, the door opened, and something pulled his body to the room with force. As Lucien fell on his bum in the room, someone smashed the door in the worm’s face to stop them from coming inside. Though they bumped their heads, and tried biting into the door, they couldn’t get in.
Lucien breathed a sigh of relief as he breathed hard. He then looked up and saw a tall, tanned, messy blonde haired man with blue eyes. The man smiled.
“Yo, brother, are you alright?”
