Once they had Jackson in the new hospital, Bhuwakul gave him over to their ER staff and called Yeji. Yeji left the bathroom when she saw who was calling.
“How is she?”
“Crying in the shower. She thinks I cannot hear her. How is he?”
“We went to The Hospital first and they cleared him. Now, he is still under sedation and being checked in the Emergency Room of the hospital that the police use.
Yeji grunted in understanding. “When do we tell everyone?”
“Not yet,” he replied. “We need to make sure that Jackson is OK first. First, we tell Seulgi. Then Gillian. Then we can worry about everyone else.”
After a moment, he said, “At least we don’t have to tell Wendy.”
They both chuckled at that particurly graveyard humored fact.
“Whoops, he’s starting to wake up. I’ll call you ter. Go ahead and tell her that he is safe and in the hospital. I’ll give information when he can be visited when he’s checked into a room.”
The phone then clicked.
Finally, Yeji thought, there was good news. Now, she just needs to find her cousin. She walked back into the bathroom, humming a catchy ditty that she heard on the radio recently.
Gillian was in a bad mood. Lately, that was not an uncommon state for her to be in. She was not the most patient person to have lived. She was not used to being thwarted. She was not used to not getting what she wanted. She was used to getting things when she wanted and as fast as possible.
She wanted Jackson. She wanted her best friend, lover, and husband. The second most important person in her life. The first was her child, of course. Still, he was a very, very close second.
She was sitting next to the sleeping child, brushing his ebony hair off his forehead with her fingers. His mother came into the room, pcing a hand on her shoulder.
“Go take a nap, Gillian. We need you at your best when he comes back.”
As a testament to how tired she was, she did as she was told without arguing. She went to the next bedroom and id down without changing out of her work clothes first.
Having waited this long, a couple of hours of sleep will not hurt anything.
Nayeon was oblivious to what was going on, for the most part. It was not her fault, though. She knew that Seulgi was going home at lunch to meet her father, so would be gone for the rest of the day. All she knew was that she would see her friend on Monday. She had pns to meet up and hang out with Katie ter that evening for dinner and drinks. However, NOT at the pce where the Harpy worked. Even if Katie begged.
The Twins were in a simir state as Nayeon. They stayed at work until the end of the day and then went to get dinner together. They knew that things were happening around them, they were not included yet, but that was OK. They would be told what they needed to know soon enough. They were also immune to any gossip going around about their team.
They talked about what they were going to be doing over the weekend. Both of them ughed at that their big pns involved cleaning, undry, and staying in. They had been told to stay home and be safe, so they were going to keep doing that until they were told it was OK to resume normal activities. As it has been mentioned before, they were both young, but neither of them were stupid.
They did make pns to co-op on a computer game that they both pyed. That might be the safest way to hang out.
Later that evening, JooHyun and Soo-Young were chatting in the diner. They were still fairly immune to the nerves that the others were affected with. They were pretty far away removed from the main group, so didn’t take the warnings as seriously. Or, they felt that they were not really involved, so didn’t get too worked up.
Soo-Young sat with her friend as she finished her dinner. They made pns to go singing ter as the manager scolded her for a second time that night for sitting with customers. Soo-Young just trilled a ughed and JooHyun covered her smile with her hand.
At about the same time that JooHyun and Soo-Young were chatting, the detective who had been working with Seulgi looked at his desk with disgust. He had a bad habit of letting the debris build up by being too focused on cases. He grimaced at the cold cup of coffee on this desk. Then he realized that it was one of four cups of half drunk, cold coffee on his desk. He looked at the clock, it was about an hour after the end of his shift. He dumped all the cold cups of coffee into the trash and emptied the ashtray of cigarettes. He frowned at the disgusting habit of others. And at the fact that it was on his desk.
He cleaned up his desk and powered his system off. He thought about going to a restaurant that a friend suggested. He said that the waitress there was insanely gorgeous and had a heavenly voice. He decided to give it a try, he needed to give himself a treat after the week he had. Little did he know.
Seulgi turned off the water. Her skin was bright red after how hot she kept the water. Yeji handed a towel. She also took her hand and guided her to sit down in front of the mirror. Confused, she was looking at Yeji. Yeji compounded it by getting another towel and started drying her hair. She whispered to Seulgi, “You need to be sitting for this. First, listen to me. Hear me all the way out before questions. Can you do that?”
A puzzled nod accompanied by a frown.
“They found Jackson.” Seulgi’s face lit up and took a breath as she was about to say something when she was ruthlessly stopped by Yeji holding up a hand.
“Listen. OK?”
Eted nod. But, she was a smart woman who had iron control over herself when needed. And this seemed to be one of those times.
“He is in the hospital being checked out. Bhuwakul is with him. Overall, he seems fine. There are some problems, of course, so they are running tests. Stop. Don’t ask ‘What?’ as I don’t know. Bhuwakul just said that he is mostly OK and is still being checked out. Just in case.”
Seulgi nodded that she understood what was said.
“He said that he would call back once Jackson was done being checked out, had a room, and was out from under sedation.”
Seulgi looked at the clock and gasped. It was still early afternoon. It felt like a lot more time had passed since the incident (She could not call it 'near murder' to herself, it was still too soon). It felt like a day had passed when it was more like four hours.
She turned to gain a look of exasperated annoyance as she found Suki smugly waiting for her on top of the clothes that Yeji had id out for her.
