Chapter 5: The Man Who Sends Shivers Down One's Spine (1)
The April sunshine was bright and warm, but it scorched Su Jingya who had just stepped out of the dark room.
She stood in front of the large iron gate, motionless.
Five days and four nights, the dark and endless confinement was like falling into an abyss of eternal damnation for her. The boundless loneliness and chill seemed to seep into her bloodstream like oxygen, clinging to her like a shadow, inseparable and inescapable, entwining her like a nightmare.
She knew that her sudden disappearance and escape from his control a month ago had thoroughly enraged the man, but... facing his punishment, his indifference, his coldness, and his cruelty, she had never hated him, not even when he couldn't keep the promise he made to her as a child.
Because I love him, deeply in love with him, so can forgive and tolerate everything about him.
Even if he marries another woman.
However, since he has already fallen in love with someone else and cannot spare a single gram of love or care for her, why is he unwilling to give her a way out? Why is he unwilling to give the child a chance to live?
Su Jingya stood under the warm sunlight, straining to lift her pale and wan little face, exerting herself to expose herself to the sun, letting the scorching light drive out the chill that had seeped into her bones.
But it's easy to drive away the chill from her body, what about that heart of hers which is riddled with scars and on the verge of freezing into ice?
Zhao Yi stood by, looking at the woman who was already four months pregnant, yet appeared even more slender and frail, with a surge of indescribable emotions in his heart.
Due to the special nature of his identity, he will never have feelings for women in this lifetime, let alone the woman in front of him, who is also Huangfu Yu's.
Zhao Yi pursed his thin lips and said nothing, staring at Su Jingya: Under the disheveled but raven-black long hair, a small face as pale as a palm, engraved with what seemed to be an eternal sorrow and desolation. Her slender body swayed in the cold wind, as if it would be blown away by just one more gust of wind.
He was never a woman who interfered with others' business and had a loving heart, but Su Jingya could easily stir up the pity hidden in his cold and apathetic heart.
"Miss Su, let's hurry to the imperial mausoleum. If we're late, I'm worried about Third Brother..." Zhao Yi saw that Su Jingya was only wearing a thin dress, and although it was already spring, it was still cold. He took off his own suit, hesitated for a moment, and finally draped the clothes over her shoulders.
Su Jingya was startled by his actions and looked up at him in horror.
"Come on, it's warmer in the car."
It was just a normal concern, but at this moment Su Jingya felt so sorrowful that she wanted to cry out loud: If Huangfu Yu could treat her with even one percent of the kindness he showed others, she would die without regret.
But she knew that Huangfu Yu's goodness to her had become a thing of the past, a history, and should have disappeared with the most distant clouds in the sky.
She gave a pale smile and took a step forward to follow. But before she could move, a sharp pain suddenly shot through her abdomen, causing her to clutch at her stomach and slowly crouch down.
Zhao Yi hurriedly stepped forward to support her and anxiously asked: "Miss Su, what's wrong? Where are you uncomfortable?"
"My stomach suddenly hurts so much, can you take me to the hospital?" Su Jingya grasped his sleeve tightly and begged.
"But San Ge's side......" Zhao Yi was in a dilemma, thinking of Huang Fu Yu's previous order: Within two hours, even if you die, bring that woman to the imperial mausoleum for me!
"Mr. Zhao, please take me to the hospital, my stomach really hurts, please save my child, please..." Su Jingya covered her stomach with one hand, tears streaming down her face as she knelt down with her last bit of strength. No matter what, she had to keep this child safe, it was hard enough for him to have given him to her.
Zhao Yi saw Su Jingya's pale face covered in cold sweat, he took a deep breath and pulled out his phone to dial Huangfu Yu's number.
As soon as the phone was connected, he said in a flustered and loud voice: "Third Brother, Miss Su suddenly has stomach pain. Can I take her to the hospital first and then send her to Huangling after she's stable?"
On the other end of the phone was endless silence, Zhao Yi anxiously shouted: "Third Brother, are you listening?"
"Hey, Third Brother?"
"Third Brother..."
……
Zhao Yi shouted until he was hoarse, but no one responded. Just as he was about to hang up the phone, intending to send Su Jingya to the hospital, a calm and indifferent voice came from the other end: "Twenty minutes! If you can't make it, don't come back!"
