Professional Log: Cliche Beginnin

  Sleeping, sleeping, sleeping...

  Awake.

Eyes open. Blearily stare at the ceiling, and then sit up. Push the covers up too, since its hot and I'm sweating.

Ugh. Sleep-sweat. It's just the worst. All sticky and gross.

  Look around.

  'What the fuck?'

The room is not my tiny bedroom, with the painted plywood walls, old superhero posters from when I was a child, and bookshelves and closets crammed into the corners.

This room is huge and opulent. It shines with cleanliness. Expensive-looking carpets line the floor and velvety red curtains line the large clear windows. A plush couch sits in the center, a glossy wooden table in front of it.

The bed I am sitting upright in is easily queen-sized. The sheets are made of wool and silk, incredibly well-spun.

In the corner of the room, I detect movement. A lady is bustling around in a black-and-white uniform, a somewhat frilly headdress crowning her. She is currently dusting a bookshelf.

This situation is incredibly strange. Am I still dreaming? Everything feels so real...

  I pinch myself. Ouch.

This situation can't get any weirder.

At that moment, I notice something in the corner of my vision and realize that my previous words had been a jinx.

  A blue screen pops up.

Familiar. The screen is reminiscent of a video game I once played. It was called Kingdom Come, and it was an RPG-based romance game targeted towards young women. It was set in a fantastical kingdom and featured a school for nobles, where a large portion of the game's storyline played out.

Based on the screen before me, I am somehow Mavus Margrave, one of the game's main villains.

That's not right though. Mavus wasn't a playable character; Kingdom Come only had one of those and that was the Protagonist. So how am I him?

  Strange, stranger, strangest.

Nothing is really making sense. But going by the name on the screen and my opulent surroundings, I can come to an obvious hypothesis.

One that I can test, using that maid over there.

"You there." I say, working up the nerve to speak.

I wasn't sure if she'd listen to me. I mean, she is a maid and I am 'supposedly' Mavus Margrave, so it would make sense if I (or my 'family') was her employer. Still, I could be wrong...

Luckily though, the woman in the black-and-white uniform straightens and faces me. She seems nervous.

  "Yes, young master?" She asks.

Damn. I feel weird, being called that.

I purse my lips and clear my throat a little.

  "Is this the Margrave estate?"

  Confusion flashes across her face.

  "Yes sir."

"And... and it's owned by Marvin Margrave, one of the Kingdom's dukes?"

  "Yes sir."

  "He is my da- father?"

  "Y- yes, sir?"

I exhale a little and narrow my eyes, ruminating upon what her answers mean. The woman keeps standing at attention, a bead of sweat running down her forehead.

Looks like she's waiting on me.

"...That's all I wanted to ask." I say.

She fidgets for a moment, but then continues standing still.

This is really awkward for me.

"You can go back to what you were doing." I clarify.

Finally, she moves, stiffly returning to her work.

  Phew.

  I resume thinking.

From her answers, I can surmise that - assuming this all isn't some prank or psychological study tricking me into believing that fiction was real - then I am indeed in the world of the video-game known as Kingdom Come.

  Well shit.
