Chapter 16: The Urn

The giant let out a thundering scream as it lunged onto Izik, but Borgis struck it with his giant hammer. The hammer looked like a big block of dark metal with to bullheads on a large stick, too big and heavy for a regular human to hold. The giant screamed as it tilted to the side and hit the wall, shaking it.

"This does not look like any giant I have seen…" Borgis remarked at the crying giant. The rest have never seen any giants in their lives. "This thing looks unnatural, and giants do not eat humans…"

"Everything we've faced in this cesspool didn't look natural," Izik remarked. "Where are they even coming from?"

Ari stood at the entrance, away from the action. "It said in the Book of Records that the Ascension of Agamon led to the corruption of most living things in Vestia."

"Did they come all the way from Vestia, then?" Izik wondered. "And how did they know about this crypt?"

"I think they're attracted to the Mittegod. That would also explain the holes."

"They've been digging all the way from another continent?"

The giant regained it bearings and tears fell out from its round black eye.

"No time for playing investigator, right now," Azeri reminded the group.

The giant's pupil shifted from black to red as it opened its mouth wide. A spark came out of from its mouth, and a fire built from it.

"Borgis!" Izik yelled as he jumped out of the giant's focus, but Borgis was too heavy to do so. The giant's fire covered Borgis whole until Azeri launched water shots at its mouth, stopping the flow of fire. Pin ran to its leg and struck with both hands, causing the giant to fall to its knees. It reached with its hand to grab Pin, but a hammer with the bullhead struck the giant in its flaming mouth, launching crumbles of teeth into the ground. The giant moaned in pain as it rolled around on the ground.

Pin looked to his side, Borgis was completely cladded in hardened stone. The stone receded from his face as long blonde beard hanged down. "A wee flame has no effect on Borgis the Golem!" He huffed."

The giant wept in agony as it looked at the stone man. It desperately tried to grab him, but Izik dashed to its side, dagger engulfed with flame that shaped it like a greatsword. With a slash, the arm dangled from the point of impact as the giant cried even more. The red eye reverted back to black. The giant miserably stood on its legs, "M-master…" It wept as it ran towards Radich with the urn in his hand.

"K-kill it!" cried Radich, his arms wrapped around the urn.

"Oh, no, you don't" Azeri's ring glowed icy blue as an enormous sharp disc formed in front of her, launching at the giant's left leg, slicing it clean off. The disc melted before it reached Radich, and the giant fell in front of him. The giant cried louder. It miserably crawled towards the frozen Radich before being struck from behind with Borgis' hammer, now shaped into a massive axe.

The giant stared into Radich's eyes, his single eye full of tears. "P-plea …" He muttered deeply before falling down.

"That was easier than expected," Izik exclaimed, approaching the fallen giant.

"It was trying to say something…" Radich was still staring at it.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

"Those fools must've been weaker than expected," Azeri followed as she drank the last of her esper bottle.

"They must have fought too many creatures before facing this giant," Borgis retorted. "Look around you," He looked around the room, corpses over corpses stretching from the entrance of different creatures of varying shapes and sizes.

"They were unlucky to get here first," Pin said, almost sympathetically.

"We still don't know how they knew about the crypt," Ari said.

"Doesn't matter," Azeri replied. "Let's get this over with and capture the Mittegod."

"How are we going to do that?" Izik asked.

Azeri grinned devilishly. "With this," she pulled out a gem that was transparent, almost as clear as the air in front of them.

"Clearstone?" Borgis' eye widened in astonishment. "Where did you get it?"

"A few deals with very interesting merchants that my father knows,"

"Wait, what is clearstone?" Izik said, confused.

"It is a gemstone with no predisposed esper stored in it. It is manmade to capture souls. Human souls."

  "Human souls?" Ari asked nervously.

"Yes," Borgis said flatly. "It was used widely after the Dawn of Calamity. Humans used other humans as fuel for fighting against the beasts that came from Vestia. It was forbidden to be made by the capital."

"Relax, this isn't a new one." Azeri scoffed. "This was made before it was prohibited. Besides, I'm not using it on a human, am I?"

"There is no way for you to know that! If anyone knew you have dealt with a Clearstone the consequences will not be light."

"Hey, I have gone too far to care about some consequences!"

"Calm down, both of you," Izik stepped between them. "As long as we don't misuse, there shouldn't be a problem. Right, Borgis?"

"Hmm," Borgis huffed angrily. "You will tell me of the merchant that gave you this gem."

Azeri rolled her eyes. "Fine. Ari, help with capturing it," Azeri ordered.

Ari was spaced out of the information she just received.

  "Ari!"

"Wha-yes," Ari took the book from Azeri's bag and scrolled through the pages. "We first need someone to open the urn by channeling enough esper to unseal it."

"Izik, would you do me this final favor?" Azeri groaned.

"Let's get this over with," he took the urn from Radich's hands. "Whoa," he said as the urn began to rumble when he grabbed it.

"N-now, you have to give it a constant stream of esper while I recite what is written here until the seal breaks," Ari said while staring at the book. "And then Azeri will use a spell to force it inside the clearstone."

  "Pretty simple, huh?" Azeri said.

"I guess…" Izik sighed. "Here goes nothing," Esper flowed smoothly from his arms and covered the urn. The aura streamed towards the lead as it shook. Ari chanted in a language not known by Izik as something seeped through the closed earn. It looked dark red like dried blood and was thick as a fog.

"That's good," Azeri said, holding the clearstone towards the urn.

Suddenly, the urn shook violently as more of the darkened red mist oozed out of it. "What do I do now?" Izik asked nervously. "It's draining my esper!"

"Just hold it tight," Azeri replied. "I'll handle the rest."

Ari neared the end of the chant as the mist was amassing in front of the part.

Radich glared at the fallen giant. "Guys, I think the monster moved," he panicked.

Borgis looked to his side, and the giant was gawking at the urn. It opened its mouth and let out a booming cry like a cornered animal, and then fell silent to the ground.

"W-what was that?" Ari asked, interrupted from her chant.

  "Don't stop!" Azeri reminded.

Pin was looked around, him. Something didn't feel right. The earth slowly shook more intensely as he heard steps from every direction. "The holes!" He screamed at Radich. "Get away from the holes!"

Before Radich had time to react, A bloated creature emerged from a hole next to him and grabbed him. He screamed in panic as it bit into his shoulder.

"Radich!" Pin screamed as he ran towards him.

Radich cried in pain as he punched the creature latched onto his shoulder, but it would not budge. "Save me!" he cried to the group.

Pin's fist glowed crescent blue as he grabbed the creature's head, shattering it into bits and pieces. Radich grabbed his shoulder in pain, blood gushing between his fingers as creatures emerged from every side of the round chamber.

Ari looked behind her, and a crawling creature lunged at her, tackling her to the ground.

"Ari!" Izik yelled as he looked at the others to help her, but everyone was occupied with monsters in front of them. He dropped the urn and sliced through the creature on top of Ari.

"This is bad!" Borgis yelled as he tackled a bloated man with hammer-like arms. "They are drawn to the Mittegod!"

"Get behind me," Izik told Ari as urn started to vibrate on the ground, and another giant broke into the room.
