‘Wow,’ Matt thought, still more than ever amazed by the sight that was his status page.

"Now, master, you need to find the Shield ability, it’ll be under the abilities section. If that helps, click on it and you should see….", Bob said, yet again going over the instructions.

‘Ugh’ "I know, Bob", Matt said with slight irritation having heard his words a thousandth and one times already, vexed at how Bob seemed to keep repeating himself over and over and over again, ‘It’s like he doesn't trust me or something.

“Ok master. I’ll leave you to it then.”

“Ok, I will '' Matt said and having found the skills Tab section mentally selected the shield skill before Bob could promptly interrupt him with yet another word in response.

‘Yes,’ Matt quietly thought, selecting the Y button, with no hesitation whatsoever, feeling a sudden strange buzz overcoming him as he did so, the notification disappearing, another three or so more notifications, appearing, taking its place in an instant second.

Stolen content warning: this tale belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences elsewhere.

‘Yes,’, Matt unhesitantly selected the Y button.

‘Shield’, Matt hesitantly willed, this time not at all completely certain with his decision, knowing he should well properly weigh all the pros and cons before using this mod point this way, yet doing it anyway, so desperately wanting his privacy of thought back as he did that he was willing to do anything and everything to get it back.

‘No, backing out now, Change’ Matt thought, filled with the same doubt’s as before yet going forwards and selecting the change option anyway, since to back out now would be to make himself a coward and matt despised cowards.

‘Huh, home stretch, here we come, energy’, Matt muttered to himself, quickly making his selection before he could convince himself otherwise.

‘I hope I don't regret this’ Matt thought, salivating over the series of opinions that were available to him, agonising over the many, many things that could be done with any one of them. Selecting the mental shield before he could convince himself otherwise.

‘Hell no,’ Matt thought, mentally selecting the Y button before he could even think to change his mind and wind up choosing something else instead.

“What the heck?” Matt wondered, falling to the darkness that was sleep before he could truly comprehend the message's full meaning.
