Duty and reward

Fighting beside Necrons and against other Necrons.

This is what my life is now, but I admit, the Silent King is a very capable xenos. I think I learned more about war and strategy at his side, than in my entire two lives combined. The Astartes tactical doctrine and the Imperial Guard's Manual were quite flawed anyway, and my attempts to rectify that with my own Art of War made my Auxilia forces much better, but it just didn't compare.

In a way, it made sense. This guy had won the War in Heaven, and then broke and enslaved his own Gods.

As for our enemies, we didn't fight just the and their Stormlord, but also client dynasties like and while a third faction called the arose as well, seeking to destroy all Necrons and free them from the curse of biotranferance.

It would have made for a bloodless war, seeing as Necrons didn't have blood, except many Necron Lords enslaved and dominated many other worlds in an attempt to gather resources for war, including human worlds. And thus, billions of people died as well, either because they didn't surrender, or they surrendered to the wrong side.

Could have been worse, I guess. My presence aboard the Song of Oblivion, as well as my Silent Sisters made some battles cease as soon as I stepped in, while my Void Dragon waved a hand to restore the human worlds to their original, undamaged form. I could do the same thing now, with my Breath, but why work harder when I had a tame Dragon to do it for me?

Such was the case at , a planet under the Sisters of Battle and a Fortress-covent lead by that were fighting the Necrons in the underground Tomb when we arrived. This was not the first war fought over Sanctuary 101, and for good reason.

The Emperor guided the Sisters here to destroy of Shard of , while various Necron Dynasties fought to control the vile thing.

"The Endless Swarm is a plague of the mind, hiding behind the eyes of everyone it touches, and controlling their actions. I hate it the most!" the Silent King growled and ground his metal teeth.

"The Sisters of Battle don't seem infected. Or perhaps the Emperor's blessing protects them." I mused in a thoughtful voice, and glanced at Zath who sat at my right.

"You may call it a blessing, but it is the same thing in a way. They are infected with Faith, and that keeps other infections at bay." the C'tan Transcendant offered with a careless voice.

I blinked in surprise, as the armored Canoness fighting a Necron Nemesor on the planet dodged a Tachyon Arrow by miracle, while the Nemesor also dodged her power sword which carved into his throne and sliced some important energy conduits.

'Go Dragon. You deal with the Overlord on that Obsidian Moon, while I stretch my legs a little.' I ordered the Star God while I simply moved, and intercepted the Nemesor before he could crush the Sister's hand and bolt pistol in his fire gauntlet.

"Mind if I step in, Sister Sepherina? Pef Lancefire, at your service." I offered in a polite voice, and shot my left gauntlet in the face of the Necron. The orange beam of the Adrathic weapon erased his fire gauntlet from existence, but the guy just discarded the struck arm and flipped into cover behind his throne.

"You! ...Lamenters Chapter? The Emperor sent his Angels to help in our hour of need!" the Sister of Battle spoke with a fervent voice, just as the as Nemessor Khaygis fired another Tachyon Arrow, at me.

A grey wolf intercepted the arrow in mid-flight and ate it, then landed beside me. I wasn't in any danger with the Yoke around the Void Dragon compelling him to secure my safety, but I guess Zath was kinda bored sitting on that metal throne.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

Suddenly, the Necron looked up towards the sky and the Obsidian Moon and yelled. "Astartes! What have you done?"

"It can talk?" Sepherina asked with a confused voice, since most Necrons didn't talk, after all. Zath flashed and ripped the Nemesor's head off, and brought it to me like a proper hunting dog.

"My dear Sister, everything can talk in this universe. Now, do they have anything interesting to say?" I asked rhetorically while holding the Necron's head in hand.

The Sister of Battle simply raised her boltgun and fired a shot into the head, making the green glow end. "Xenos purged. I guess I didn't want to hear this thing speak anyway."

"Fair enough. The Sautekh Necrons simply want all organic life to end, so there's not much point talking to them. Hold on!" I urged the Sister as I grabbed her with one arm and jumped away from the Necron Monolith while Zath's eye beams erased the thing in a red glow.

"Did you bring your Chapter, Lord Lancefire? There are plenty of Necrons..." the Canoness asked in a wary voice, as her Sisters were being overwhelmed by numerous Necrons and metal Constructs besieging the Sisters' fortress.

'End them!' I commanded mentally, and the Void Dagon simply erased the mind engrams that served as Motive Force for the Necron enemies.

"Hah!" I laughed, as the Necron skeletons fell to the ground like puppets without strings. "Conservation of Lancefire, Sister. Why send more, when a single Lancefire is enough?" I quipped in an amused voice, since the battle had ended just now.

"It seems the exaggerated rumours I heard about you were not true, my lord. You are far stronger than we knew." the Canoness whispered as she glanced around at the field of deactivated metal skeletons.

"I guess some rumors are true anyway. How about we celebrate our great victory, and hold a party? I brought drinks." I proposed with a bottle of Amasec dangling in my free hand.

"Emperor preserve us! You really are a lecherous scum!" the Sister grumbled in a reluctant voice.

I nodded and smiled. "Let's bring your Sisters, and let's get this party started. I keep the Blank boys, you keep the girls. I think my daughter Janice left instructions, just in case I show up."

The Canoness sighed and slapped away the hand I was sneaking towards her ass. "We will do our duty, but don't be so gleeful about it. Most of us have never tasted a man in their life."

'Accel time, Dragon. We need to depart in 40 minutes to catch the next Sautekh fleet at anchor.' I told the Void Dragon, who gathered and healed the surviving Sisters on the planet inside my tesseract.

Only 40000 of the Sisters were still alive, but with fertility treatments and a vigorous dose of gene spread, I could triple their numbers and gain 80000 more Blank boys for my next project.

I poured a glass of Amasec to the Canoness and sipped some myself. Bitter-sweet, but then all victories are the same. I was half-way in the middle of this campaign, so I deserved a small break from war to taste more pure Sisters.

And then, back to war and killing. These captured Necron Warriors will make for a good cannon fodder later, when I turned my attention on the Orks, to clear the way for another expansion of my Domain in the Fringe.

My Omega nanites on my tongue produced a tiny dose of hyperfertilizer for the good Sister, which I gently inserted in her mouth via a sweet kiss.

"Hmmm. You don't taste so bad, Pef Lancefire. Now lay down and let me taste more. How long can we spend in bed?" Sister asked as she pushed me on my back.

The Void Dragon wasn't as limited as I was with time shifts, and a sun had plenty of mass and energy to fuel the time accel. "I wouldn't worry about time. We could spend a thousand years here, and come out a minute later in realspace." I answered with a big smile.

The Sister of Battle's eyes glinted with something hungry, as she traced her fingers over my chest and abdomen. "Well then, Angel of the Emperor. I guess I can enjoy my holy reward for a bit more. I hope those rumors about your stamina are true." she spoke in a sweeter voice and leaned down to kiss my belly.

The lance sprang up for duty, and I smiled. "It tastes even better than those rumours."
