Chapter 31: Escalation

But before his sword could connect with Levi’s throat, he was stopped by a wave of suppression that threatened to mince him into a thousand pieces.

This wave not only contained the powerful spiritual energy of the Dantian Grade, it also contained an incomparable majestic dragon might, one that was a lot more mature and powerful than Levi’s. Levi’s dragon might could not even be said to be comparable to the dragon might of a newborn dragon, it was way to weak.

Such a strong and dense dragon might, could only belong to Dairo, the elder of the Azure Dragon Sect. Even though it was shameful for him to intervene in a battle during the kingdoms tournament, he could not let Yasha kill Levi, while he was present. He had stopped others from intervening, but he was the strongest person present, so he made the rules and if he wanted to step forward, none could stop him.

Old Man Dairo was now standing in the VIP area and was shouting directly at Yasha, “How dare you?! The battle is already over! I advise you to stop you rascal, or otherwise I cannot guarantee that you will live to see the morning sun…” Towards the end his voice turned increasingly sinister.

From his words, it was obvious that he wished that Yasha wouldn’t stop. This way, he could directly eliminate this youngster that made even him feel uneasy at times. Levi’s predicament was only secondary, what really mattered was his personal interest, even if Levi was the youngest prodigy of his sect.

Dairo simply could not stand the fact that he was intimated by Yasha that one day. He, a noble elder of the Azure Dragon Sect, one of the strongest sects on the whole Four Divinity Continent, cowered in front of a child. If word of this spread out… He couldn’t even dare to think about the faces of the other elders that deeply respected him. In the end, the only thing that really mattered, was his own face.

Last night, the scene where Yasha lost control played again and again before his eyes and Old Man Dairo thought long about this particular feeling and finally came to the conclusion that it must have been a misconception by the Azure Dragon blood.

There was simply no way that the boy could really threaten his life. Thats why he decided not to listen to his intuition and resolved to eliminate that kid, should Yasha use this powers once again. This boy was only in the Energy Gathering Stage, no special bloodline or other superpowers could change that fact and elevate his powers into to the ranks of Dantian Grade experts. In no world or scenario could Yasha pose a threat to him.

On another note though, Dairo himself knew that his Azure Dragon blood was pathetically thin. In front of people without a special bloodline, his implanted blood line elevated him into a godly being, especially with his divine Azure Dragon Blood, but in front of other blood line bearers of similar or even slightly worse power, he would loose out on every exchange — only taking blood line powers into account.

Of the other elders, only Dyetz and Arslan were sweating a bit, albeit out of completely different reasons. Dyetz feared to lose not only his life, but the life of his whole clan. The words of Dairo from that one night during the elder assembly were still echoing through his head… If Yasha really continued to walk down this path, then the Hunlua Clan would be doomed.

Arslan on the other hand had the impulse to stop Dairo, but in the end he clenched his fists and sighed. Even though he liked Yasha very much, he only met him by chance only knew him for one day — the risk involved was simply too huge for him. He could not afford to offend the Azure Dragon Sect. The Moon Flower Sect was powerful and could hold its ground for a while against the Azure Dragon Sect, but he was not in the position to make such a situation.

The piercing gaze from a particular person in the participants area did not change his mood for the better, it made him feel even worse instea. He clearly felt Eleanor’s gaze pressing on him. She conveyed a clear message to him: Stop Dairo and save Yasha, you can’t let him die like this.

You are still too young, young miss, and you don’t understand the seriousness of the matter at hand…, thought Arslan and shook his head in response, his head tilted towards the ground now, while feeling guilty and helpless.

It was a long time ago, since he last felt so powerless, especially after he reached the Dantian Grade. Who could possibly content against him, aside of other Law Seekers?

And those were scarce, they were the absolute elite of every major force in the Azure Dragon Kingdom and rarely appeared in public. But today his potential enemy was, or would be, the Azure Dragon Sect, the uncontested hegemony of the kingdom.

On the stage, Yasha seemed to not hear Dairo’s shout at all. He simply continued in his action without holding back.

This shout, however, made Yasha regain some of his consciousness, exiting the absolute darkness that enveloped his soul and mind. He now clearly felt everything around him, but the influence of the rampaging Asura blood was still pushing him to the brink.

It galloped through his veins and burned with endless desire to kill the enemy opposing him. It seemed even more determined than ever, seemingly provoked even more by the stronger Azure Dragon might that was exerted by Old Man Dairo.

Yasha tried everything he could to fight against the Asura blood, to stop his actions, but the Asura blood cut through his mental resistances like an incomparably sharp knife cutting through paper. His mental resistance and his soul could only watch helplessly as it influenced him to not back down.

He felt like a bystander watching himself throw away his life. It was a depressing feeling, being able to see everything, but being incapable of doing anything. He knew that there was no way out for him, if he really killed Levi. He would be the arch enemy of the Azure Dragon Kingdom and he would be nowhere safe, hunted by every major and minor faction of the Azure Dragon Kingdom.

Dairo only sneered in response to the mute Yasha and in next to no time, he already appeared in front of Yasha, ready to bring him down to his knees. With Dairo standing in front of him, Yasha could not continue forward and was forced to stop.

With his right hand Dairo slowly pressed downwards, while his furious eyes bore into Yasha like hot iron. Yasha instantly felt the suppression around him increase manifold until he could even make out the corporeal form of an Azure Dragon coiling itself around Dairo.

The azure scales shone like countless miniature suns and coupled with the razor sharp claws and its majestic bearing, everyone in the arena felt the urge to prostrate themselves on the ground.

Such a noble being could not be disrespected. Thus the suppression gradually influenced the whole arena and many weak cultivators and mortals were forced to their knees. Even many of the elders were feeling the pressure that Dairo emanated with his cultivation power and bloodline power.

And yet there was still someone standing from the younger generation. Bearing the full force of Dairo’s might, Yasha looked like a leaf caught in a heavy storm. Defiant scarlet eyes stared straight back at Dairo, executing a firm will that would rather break than bend.

Looking at those eyes, Dairo felt the same uneasiness as last time, shocked that this young boy still managed to stand, even after he combined fused his dragon might into the power of his spiritual energy. To smother that uneasiness, Dairo increased the force he exerted on Yasha once again.

This increase caused the other elders in the VIP arena to become white, while they secretly circulated their spiritual energy to counter the blood line powers. Other spectators were simply too weak and passed out.

Yasha on the other hand, still resisted with all his might. The cracking sounds coming from his bones that started to gave in to the pressure, did not influence him at all. It was clear that he would not go down without a fight.

In accordance to the rising pressure, the Asura blood also drew out more potential from Yasha, siphoning every ounce of energy it could find to counter the pressure. Like a caged beast, the Asura blood tried to not only resist its oppressor, it instead fought back, wanting to overpower its opponent.

Being suppressed by Dairo to the point where he could not even breath, Yasha grew incomparably furious, which only fueled the Asura blood even more, tempted to go all out.

In that moment, Yasha reached a moment of resonance, multiplying the power of the Asura blood, pushing back the pressure. Both did not want to be suppressed and both would rater break than bend. For the first time since the awakening of the Asura blood, Yasha felt like he agreed with the Asura blood.

Seeing Yasha not only passively resisting, but also actively fighting back, Dairo grew even more furious. Feeling disrespected, he finally threw caution to the wind and punched forward. Accompanied by roaring astral winds a large dragon claw then materialized in the air above Yasha and squashed down, ready to decimate the ant below.

Sensing the danger from above, Yasha reacted quickly and drew Destiny Devourer from its sheath. From such a short distance, there was no way he could evade this attack that closed off all escape roots. But even if he could dodge, as he was currently resonating with the Asura blood, he would never choose to back off.

Pointing towards the massive dragon claw above him, Yasha channeled the power of the Asura blood and the last dregs of his spiritual to fuel this one last move. Jumping forward, Yasha did not wait for the dragon claw to arrive, he instead threw himself at the dragon claw, like a moth flying to the flame.

The moment Destiny Devourer touched the claw, Yasha immediately bounced off and crashed into the stage, creating a huge crater as a result. Yasha immediately spat out blood countless times, bleeding profusely, while most of his bones were nothing but a broken mess.

Contrary to what the masses expected, Yasha was not reduced to puddle of blood and gore, but was still in one piece.

Watching the exchange on the stage, Eleanor cried out loud and started to panic. She could not understand why Yasha went so far and why he was not willing to give up even after Dairo appeared on stage, but she was also unwilling to watch him continue to throw away his life. A strange, unknown feeling had long invaded her, since their night at the camp together. She did not what it was, but she knew that she wanted to spend some more time with Yasha.

Thinking hard for a solution, she suddenly fetched a paper talisman from her pocket, a delighted expression on her face. This talisman was used to convey a message over long distances. Such a talisman was incomparably valuable and was reserved for absolute emergencies, but Eleanor did not care anymore.

Since you avoid my gaze and don’t want to do anything, I have no other choice. She then harrumphed and inscribed a short message on the talisman.

In the VIP area, Arslan still looked at the ground, when he suddenly noticed the emergency communication talisman heating up in his pockets. It already dawned what Eleanor had done, but as her protector, he had to look at her message. Taking the paper talisman out of his pocket, a bitter smile appearing on his face.
