Chapter 29 – The Horrors of the Lake

By time dusk fell, Lumina was standing before the ke with its surface shimmering from the moonlight, a gentle breeze brushing upon its waves emitting crashing sounds upon her ears. Looking around, she didn't see any disturbances or tracks but decided to go over the information that she mao pry from the nearby farmers.

They said that the farmers closest to the ke had their animals disappear where those nowhere he ke did not enter su issue. Sedly, though they deny that there were people missing, they couldn't hide their guilt from appearing in their expressions meaning they do know something about it but don't want to talk about it for some reason.

Ha, well I assume the reason for the disappearances are reted to the ke, perhaps there is some kind of monster down there? ing to this stray thought, Lumina decided to use the rat shadows to go down as far as they into the ke to see if she find anything.

Doing so, Lumina saw the rocky surface beh the retively calm ke that went deeper and deeper, yet became darker and darker making it very difficult to see. Just when she felt like giving up, she saw carcasses and bones of what looked to be cows and other animals at the end of her vision. There also appeared to be some human remains down here and just when she felt she was onto something, she saw some of the rocky surface move and ge their colour.

The supposed rocky surface was actually a rge tentacle grabbing a half eaten carcass being drawn into a beak. Oh god! Its a rge octopus! what is it doing here?! Silently screaming in shock, Lumina immediately made the rat shadows return as she backed away from the ke. Remembering the entry to this magic beast during one of the csses enlightened and horrified her to the situation. A rge octopus is a magic creature that is immuo pierg damage and has extremely fast regeion making it one of the toughest to kill. On top of this, they have the natural advantage in water based fights.

What do I do? Think think think think! Ah! That's right, I don't have to fight this creature, I only o create a report to send back to the hunters guild, then they send a force to deal with it! Haha.

ing to this clusion, Lumina quietly fled the ke and headed back to the vilge finding a spare room to sleep in as she wrote a fast letter to be sent back to the hunters guild. Eyelids being heavy, she stopped writing the letter and fell asleep ohatched hay floor and made do with that as a bed.

The m she woke up and fihe letter before having it ed ready to be sent off. Going around the vilge, she found that previous knight guard that she asked questions to yesterday and handed him the letter. "Send this back to the hunters guild and say that it is a timely report for my mission here, they will uand."

"Of course miss." Was his reply before he got onto a steed and galloped off quickly to the capital city, Droma. Realising that it will take half a day before a response arrives, Lumina decided that now would be a good time to tinue practig with the rapier therefore, she heads of to a nearby field that is empty and started to practice footwork and lunging.

Once she ehat there were no issues with either teiques, she started to imagine a sario where she would have to fight with only the rapier, effectively ing to a clusion that she currently doesn't have any defensive manoeuvres that she use. Taking a few hours to e up with a solution, Lumina started to develop some guarding positions. Her eyes started to gloss over as in her mind differing basic rapier teiques stated to form, reising this form as the enlightening state that she art of before, she took advantage of this to shore up any basic teiques of the rapier that may have been lost on her without a teacher.

After an ierminate amount of time ter, soaked i, Lumina came out of the enlighte state with a refreshing feeling on the rapiers fouard, cut, lunge and thrusting teiques all settling in her mind. Lumina has now bee an apprentice level swordswoman. However, despite knowing about all the basic teiques, she still has not mastered all of them.

Wiping her sweat of using a rag, she sits down and has a quick lunch break wheices a dust cloud in the distance. Usihon, Lumina saw that the dust cloud ing closer was the guard with a small party of mix-mashed hunters. Getting up, Lumina waits nearby the gate as the horses slowed down to a trot before the hunters jumped of their backs, creating a rge thumping sound as their feet touched the ground.

A rather rge wolf man gazed sternly in her dire. "Lumina, was there no falsehood in that report?" His voice had hints of aggressive growls tio them making him seem impolite, but Lumina khat this wasn't the case and this was just the natural at of wolf men.

"Yes, I wasn't mistaken hence why I sidered it urgent enough to call upon the more senior huo deal with this." Being sih her answer, Lumina spoke with absolute crity.

"Shit, no wonder... Guys were looking at a B perhaps even A rank threat. Prepare the traps and bait, ensure your ons are sharpened." Barking out orders, the wolf man then looked back at Lumina as he noticed her curiosity towards his group. "The best way to deal with something hat regees and ot be pierced is to use magic casters that are in the earth and iain to freeze it while using rge sshing and heavy blunt ons to break and crumble the beast that is frozen."

Lumina listening to his expnation realised that he was imparting words of wisdom and strategy of how to deal with this kind of threat under a uuation. Taking this lesson to heart, Lumina thanked him before asking if she could watch them from afar to see how its done.

"Hahahaha, sure! I wele you newer."

Gearing up, everyoarted to head towards the ke where the mighty tentacled horror awaits.
