Halcyon System One Month Hiatus

  Hello, Halcyon System readers.

When I wrote this up on Friday and Saturday, it was a lot whinier. I'm glad I edited it.

TLDR first. If you’re reading this, it means The Halcyon System is going on hiatus for one month while I figure out how to enjoy writing again.

Background information for those who care (and an explanation for why Apocalypse Engineering isn’t going on hiatus):

  I need a break.

I’ve been trying to make writing fantasy and science fiction—specifically LitRPG and Progression Fantasy—a career for two years. Nine books in, I’ve learned so much. I’ve grown a lot as an author. But the reality is that I’m not making it right now. I’m currently blessed with a secure living situation, but even so, the output I’ve had over the last two years has been…a lot.

This book was originally published on Royal Road. Check it out there for the real experience.

I’m a lot burned out. A lot a lot. I’ve been going to the coffee shop twice a week, and on Friday, I went in and stared at my laptop for almost an hour. The Halcyon System document was open, and I knew what I needed to write, but I couldn’t do it. I know where the story goes from here, and I know how to get there. But I need to reset and get back to loving writing.

So, why is The Halcyon System going on hiatus here when Apocalypse Engineering isn’t? Simple: AE has backlog. Lots and lots of backlog. I haven’t had Halcyon System backlog since June of last year. Every chapter has been written the week it’s been pushed to Patreon. And I don’t have the backlog to take a break right now, but I also don’t have the mental state to keep putting words on the page.

  I’m sorry.

I’m going to try to take two weeks for my own sanity, then I’m going to try to get a little ahead on The Halcyon System. Hopefully, I can make that happen. I’ll resume posting in April. I’ll even take a shot at Writathon again to wrap the series up. If you’re on Patreon, I’m pausing the related tiers, with the exception of the combo tier with Voltsmith/Apocalypse Engineering.

Thank you all for being such great readers. I hope to see you on the other side.

TLDR again. If you’re reading this, it means The Halcyon System is going on hiatus for one month while I figure out how to enjoy writing again.
