The Human Be-In was the next event Ethan and Erwin attended. It was held a couple of weeks after Ethan arrived at that space and time. Erwin didn’t resist going. Priya told him he was going and he shrugged his shoulders acceptingly and went on with his day. The Be-In was in response to California banning LSD in the fall of 1966. This was to be a huge gathering in protest of the new law. Everyone in the house was excited to attend.

  “Me too,” Terence responded. “Alan, I’d like you to meet Ethan”, he said, and then through the side of his mouth. “He’s from the future”.

  “Ah! A time traveller, making his way through space and time,” Watts proclaimed, addressing Ethan, standing to shake his hand. Ginsberg of course had an opinion on Ethan’s claim and voiced it. Ethan ignored him. Trusting in Terence, Watts accepted there to be some truth to what he had been told.

  “Yes sir,” Ethan replied.

  “What brings you to our time and place Ethan?” Watts asked, never losing his self- composure. His eyes were alight like he found a degree of humour in Ethan’s claim.

  “Just taking in the festivities,” Ethan replied, greeting Watt’s laughing, but attentive eyes. “I was hoping we could get together and chat some day”.

  “Yes, of course,” Watts replied. “Why not drop by for a visit. Terence knows where I am”.

  ”Great,” Ethan replied with a smile. “Hope to see you soon”.

  Ethan nodded to Watt’s, and then towards Snyder as he left. Watts perceived there was something about Ethan that should be taken seriously. He knew he wouldn’t be able to trip him up with his opinioned discourse the next time they met. During the entire exchange, Ethan acted like he knew Watts to his very soul. Not a place where Watts liked people to be.

  When Ethan and Terrence got back to the group, the bands had started playing and everyone was eating turkey thanks to the Diggers. Ethan found Crystal and they hugged.
