@jaskij
I only have one question: moar wen?
Honestly, enjoyed the story. The beginning, and the main character, are probably the most relatable of all the SCS fics I read so far.
I do wonder about Hawkins and Burns. Will we finally see a samurai set up their own PMC? It's been alluded many times, but nobody wrote it.
Obvious ship is obvious. Or is it?
I am writing as fast as possible, but I don't have quite as much time as I used to. I decided to have kids and apparently went above and beyond with twins XD
Hawkins and Burn will be an ongoing part of the story, but I am still working on how. I honestly did not intend to have them stick around but while I was writing it just felt right, and now I have to live with that XD
Obvious ship is obvious, yes XD

Hey! fun idea to do a Q&A. Cynical part of me thinks you may have a bit of a writer's block and you're using us an idea box, hahaha ??
But. In fairness I think I've got some questions...
- How are both of them doing pointswise, catalogs unlocked and / or shared?
- Kat seems to focus on defensive tactics, while Leo seems a hybrid offensive / healer type build, correct?
2.A: If Leo's aspect is a Phoenix, what is Kat's? I'd feel it could be either a turtle / tank style critter, or a porcupine / reactive defensive style critter.
2.B: are they staying a team?
2.C: Do you have a mid or endgame goal in mind for say, high tier 2 - early tier 3 or 4, for where you want your characters to end up?
- Jaskij asked first, but Hawkins and Burns - if you're not starting a full PMC with these two as backbone, perhaps a dedicated fireteam? Kind of like Alana's squad in "Slaying Aliens and Infringing Copyrights", another fun SCS fanfic.
- Whenabouts are they in the main timeline? With Ravensdagger's Stray Cat Strut as the base / current timeline?
- Will their next adventures keep them local where they are now, or do you see them traveling to a more populous region, with potentially more hives?
- Could they take part in the global incursion? Or if they're older and more mature / leveld at that point, could they take part in the Mars mission?
- Both Leo and Kat are doing alright in terms of points. Leo is currently sitting at just over 3,000 (as of Chapter 23). I don't keep a close track of Kat, her stuff is more "rule of cool.” As for catalogs, they do share a couple of them, but it is more a matter of just ongoing access so they don’t have to confirm all the time.
- You got their specializations down, but Leo has had a bit of a shift. Initially he was meant to be a sort of battlefield medic, but I had issues coming up with a storyline I wanted and was able to write so his focus has shifted. Instead of having a main focus on healing, he will be mainly focused on area control and debuff style fighting. He still has more of a focus on healing than most Samurai though, so that isn’t going away.
- As for the aspect portion, Leo is a Phoenix mostly because it was an inside joke with him and his dad (see the sticker on Leos helmet back in the beginning) and is something I would love to explore more as we go. Kat does not really have an aspect like that in part because I could not think of any mythical figure that fit my vision.
- They will absolutely stay a team! Hard to make the obvious ship sail if they aren’t XD
- I do have a goal for their late game gear and abilities, but I am trying to pace myself so they don’t become too OP too fast. My main hesitation is making it so that the gear I want fits within the Class framework of the wider SCS universe.
- I mentioned earlier, but I’ll expand a bit. I do plan on making them prevalent throughout the story, but I didn’t originally plan on them sticking around lmao. I like the dedicated strike-team idea so I may use that, it definitely fits with what I’m comfortable writing a lot more than trying to have them be a PMC.
- In terms of timeline, I decided this is just a month or so prior to SCS. I have some plans for Leo to take part in the global incursion and possible Phobos.
- Currently, my plan is to have them stay local in the state of Montana.
- I refer you to my earlier comment lol.

@Theswerd
How are they doing with processing the death of their team? I mean... people they knew for years, played with, worked with, killed next to them with nary a chance to say goodbye. Or have remains for a funeral.
That would kinda mess me up.
So, I haven’t had much of a chance to expand on the feelings part of it, but I do have a plan for it. I have hinted at Leo setting up a funeral for his friends, I just haven’t had a chance to get that bit written out. Dealing with grief is not an easy thing for anybody and I personally have troubles experiencing or dealing with what most would consider a “normal” response to it, which makes writing it an interesting ordeal.
These next few chapters are going to be a lot lighter on the action and heavier on worldbuilding and inter-personal interactions, partially because I don’t want this story to become a slaughter-fest and also, I’m using this story as a way to push myself to improve.
