Chapter 23: Chase!
No wolf had expected Ken to do what he did, and that's what made him able to escape far before they could even react, and when they did, he was nowhere to be seen.
But a wolf's strength wasn't in their power or speed, but...
in their sense of smell!
"AWOOOOO!" Howls sounded all around the forest, and the wolves ran in droves, not separating for a single second as they chased Ken's trails.
Unfortunately for them... the young man wasn't going to be found anytime soon.
He was actually just going to escape and then fight them one by one until they all died, but upon thinking about it for a second, such opponents wouldn't make him gain much.
It was better for him to rest and keep his energy, especially in such a pce.
It was true that if he were to sneak around and attack them, it wouldn't take as much of his energy and would even make him adapt to such a way till he masters it.
It was better to move on.
Or so was his thought process.
There truly was no right way to go about this. He just did what he wanted to do.
By now, night has fallen, but it made no difference aside from this pce being more dangerous.
Its dark fog already made it a pce where day and night had close to no difference, and now that the danger increased, Ken was more inclined to believe that what he had done was the right decision.
He first went deeper into the isnd, and once he was around a third of the way to the center, he started looking for a rge tree or a cave to make himself a shelter.
And a tree he found. It had a hole beneath it that he could use as a shelter, but before he went there, he threw a little rock.
Since he escaped the wolves, he had been cautious, going around bushes, and he even learned how to jump from tree to tree. Doing this, he had come across many scenes that made even his indifferent face crumble.
This pce was hell. It was a wless pce where the w of the jungle was rumpant, and around here, where no overlord reached, the small beasts were more violent and incomparably fierce.
From bears to leopards, deers to rabbits, everything had a predator above it.
And this obviously included him.
If he were to so much as overestimate himself, he wouldn't wake up or go back to tell the tale.
And his caution once again proved to be much needed.
From the tree hole jumped a squirrel, a squirrel whose size was 5 times rger and whose teeth and cws made the young man sweat.
It looked around, and upon not seeing anyone, it rose up to the top of the tree and looked around once more before it hid.
Now, he had to actually take care of it or look for another shelter.
And from what he had seen, he would have to deal with these beasts one way or another; they had more than taken over these pces, and their numbers were in overabundance.
Thus, the young man came out of his hiding pce and looked up.
The squirrel didn't make a move; it watched from a hole in the tree and opened its mouth in glee.
It had found its prey.
Ken had a theory. A theory he had already spoken of.
This pce sure as hell was the testing pce of some dangerous b rat wanted by the entirety of the marines.
And he wasn't going to let himself be found anytime soon.
He was going to sneak around, gain the experience he needed, and would only confront whoever was ruling this pce if he was cornered.
Fortunately for Ken, or unfortunately... he was right.
And as he moved closer to the squirrel to hunt it down, his movements were observed by little flies that were pced all around the isnd.
From the second he had entered to now, his every action was recorded and fed back to a rge monster that lived on the center of the isnd and then stored for the scientist who was behind the mutation of all these monsters to check whenever he wanted.
