Book 9 - The Deal - Chapter 6

I was too shocked to react.

I’d only just learned who my mother was the day before. Given that the Goddess Gar had been a few hundred years old when she’d been Desolated, I had no doubt that it was possible that there were quite a few siblings out there somewhere, but I doubted that Pix was one of them.

If Klix knew who my father was, then there was a chance that it was possible, but I was under the impression that Klix believed I was Trent’s kid like everyone else. And the bandit Whisper Err had sworn that it was impossible for Trent to have any kids my age.

“Go on.” Pix didn’t bother looking at the guard. “Miss Gesai and Kara can bring in the others.”

The guard looked hesitant while the rest of us were still trying to process her claim.

“GO.” It wasn’t a request or suggestion this time. The pink-haired woman looked down right menacing.

The Scarlet hurried after the rest of my group without offering another word of resistance.

“Now that we can talk a little more freely…” Pixie turned to our teacher, then looked at me. “She knows?’

I nodded slowly and was barely able to force out a single word.. “How..?”

“You’re the hunter!” Pix ignored me and moved to Rix putting a hand on each of her shoulders. “I’ve never met one of you before!”

The look on the golden woman’s face told me that she wanted to be anywhere other than standing there being touched by the weirdly energetic woman. Though I was relieved to see that the killing intent was gone.

“So who..?” Gesai was the first one of us who were able to process her claim.

“I’m your Healer!” Pix let go of the redhead next to me and turned to our teacher. “And his little sister!” There was something about the innocent smirk that she gave me that was anything but innocent.

“When did Trent..?” I looked at the bus and began putting things together. “This is what Klix wanted to talk about.”

“Yep!” Pix walked around to the back of the bus and tried to open it, but it was locked. “Can one of you open this so we can get them out?”

“Trent never told me he…” I replayed the interaction between Klix and Trent in my head and realized that my fake father hadn’t agreed to anything. Klix had said she wasn’t ready to have that discussion, which meant she probably wanted to wait until Trent was here and introduce us to Pixie. I looked at the other woman. “You weren’t supposed to be here.”

The pink-haired woman smiled as she backed away from the bus. “I can go anywhere within the walls, so it’s not like I’m not supposed to be here.”

“Klix wanted to introduce you to Trent herself.” I nodded at the back of the bus that Kara was opening.

“Daddy!” Pix threw her arms open, then turned to me. “I don’t think he heard me.” She smirked. “So I didn’t spoil mom’s surprise.”

I’d already assumed that she was Klix’s daughter, but having her confirm it. Though she was also claiming to be Trent’s kid, so I guessed that didn’t really confirm anything.

I shook my head. “Do you know where I’m supposed to meet your mother?”

Pix opened her mouth, but was cut off by a howl.

  “PIXIE!”

There was a bang and Klix was standing in front of us. The porcelain Goddess had on a red pantsuit and her white hair was done up in a simple braid. Her red eyes felt like lasers as they glared at the younger woman.

  “WHAT. DID. I. SAY?”

“Not to let Trent see me until you had a chance to talk to him.” Pix gestured at the unconscious old man in the back of the bus. “He can’t see me.”

Klix covered her face with her hand. I heard a growl escape from her lips, letting just a few of her shark teeth show.

“House.” She pointed at the palace. “NOW!”

The younger woman balled her fists and started to argue, but the mom-glare that Klix gave was strong enough that my body started screaming at me to get inside.

Pix stomped towards the palace without another word. After a moment, the Goddess in front of us sighed.

“That girl. Out of all of them…” Klix shook her head, then looked at Kara. “We’re taking them to my chambers.”

The Goddess headed off towards the building. Once she was inside, I realized the four remaining women were all looking at me.

“Gesai grab Trent. Kara, can you get Astrid?” I looked over at Ether. “I guess we’re doing this now.”
