Chapter 17: Riding the Flow

The sun was about to rise up. Elias was standing on the beach enjoying the calming breeze hitting his face and passing through his har and his shirt. He seemed to be enjoying the sound of waves trying to cover the wholedry area on the beach. The additional sound of birds mixed in with the waves but strangely in some mystic ways , the overall environment seemed calmer to Elias.

Selene watched him from afar, as the sun started to rise.

“Yesterday, you were fighting the energy. Today, you’re going to work with it.” said Selene as she started walking towards him.

Elias took a deep breath, nodding. He was ready for today.

He knelt and placed his hands on the board, calling his energy forward. The glow came faster this time, a faint shimmer spreading across the surface. He stepped on, and the moment his weight settled, the energy flickered again—unstable.

Selene spoke, her voice steady. “You’re treating energy like it is separate and different from you, something you have to impose control over. It’s not. It’s you.”

“Tell me ,how are you so good at surfing ? How are you able to surf over such large waves” asked Selene.

Elias took a moment to articulate and said “I have been into surfing from quite some time and practice makes me good at surfing. I practice daily, sometimes I overcome obstacles easily, sometimes it takes time. But at the end I come out stronger.”

“But the waves are no joke, how are you able to surf over them?” asked Selene ?

Elias thought hard going through his various experiences while surfing suddenly something seemed to hit a nerve inside. He felt he had a breakthrough. Excitement filled him to the brim. He had almost spent his whole life surfing and reading the Ocean.

“Well, while surfing, I treat the waves as my friend. Instead of resisting them , I let the waves carry me. Surfing isn’t about overpowering the water but adjusting, flowing with it and letting it” said Elias as he thought “How could I be so stupid …”.

Selene recognised the expression on Elias’s face and she new that he would be unstoppable from now.

Her earlier words clicked in his mind.

Elias closed his eyes and took a steady breath. This time, he didn’t push. Instead, he let the energy emerge, not as a force to be controlled, but as something natural. He imagined the way his body adjusted mid-wave, the way his instincts guided every shift in weight.

When he opened his eyes, the board was glowing—not erratically, not flickering, but steady.

Selene gave him a small nod. “Now, stay on it.” He pushed off the shore, riding a small wave. The energy held, wrapping around the board smoothly. He adjusted his stance, tilting left, and the glow shifted seamlessly with him. For the first time, it felt right.

Elias kept at it for hours, falling only when exhaustion took over. But by midday, he wasn’t just standing on the board—he was controlling it. The energy no longer flickered uncontrollably; it obeyed his will, shifting where he needed it, strengthening his movements.

It felt unreal. With enough energy, he could ride waves longer, change direction faster, even defy the usual limits of speed. He wasn’t just surfing—he was commanding the board.

Selene watched from the shore, impressed. This wasn’t just progress—this was instinct.

She raised her voice over the crashing waves. “Now, ride a wave without touching the board.”

  Elias blinked at her. “What?”

“Let the energy be your only connection. No physical contact. Just control.”

He hesitated. Keeping energy stable on a solid object was hard enough. Using it as his only tether? That felt impossible.

But impossible wasn’t an excuse. He paddled out and caught a wave, building momentum. Then, slowly, he lifted his feet.

For a split second, he hovered—the board beneath him still glowing, still moving with him. He was shell shocked as he levitated. This reality , the power had just began to sink in when suddenly, the energy cut out, and he crashed into the sea.

  Selene smirked. “Not bad.”

Elias surfaced, shaking the water from his hair. He grinned. “Again.”

  Tomorrow, he would master it.
