Ch.8 "Olivia"

Life in the New World Chapter 8 “Olivia”

I grin as I look at the window before me. “Did you do it?” Grace asks looking back at me. “Yeah” I say as I grin. “So what is it?” she asks. ”Explosives” I reply grinning at her. “Wait, what!?” she shouts at me. “What is wrong with you she says, exasperatedly. “Don’t worry it’s not like it was dangerous. Well I think so anyway” I say to reassure her. “Probably, Probably, What do you mean probably?!” she nearly screams at me in anger. “Relax” I say feeling feels like blood-lust, “they’re non-lethal” I quickly say before she can cut me off. Feeling the blood-lust start to fade, I let out a sigh I hadn’t realized I was holding in.

Storing the bombs in my inventory I start to think over the rest of the plan. “Ok I guess I should keep working” I whisper under my breath. Picking up a mop I cut the top off with my hatchet and then sawed it into fourths. Taking one of the fourths I polish it with sand paper and cut a notch in the bottom of it, before doing the same to the other three. Taking one of the now rounded rods I glue three feather shaped, thin stacks of glued-together papers to the bottom end of the rod. Having glued the “feathers” to the rods I pull out four of the re-hammered iron arrow heads I had taken off of the goblin’s arrows, covering the tip of one of the rods in glue I stick it into the arrow-head slot. Repeating the process I make three more.

I nod, satisfied, having expected this result. Pulling more mops and brooms off the wall I repeat the process.

Reaching into my inventory I pull out the special arrow heads I had made earlier…

  A few hours earlier

As I take the pot of goblin’s blood, water, and goblin eye off of the hotplate I turn to the bottles I had prepared beforehand and dump it into the bottles.

Taking the poison and the hollow goblin bone arrowheads I had made just before I pour the poison into the arrowhead and plugging it with a cut piece of PVC.

  Present Day

Attaching the last of the “poisonous goblin-bone arrowheads” to the arrow shafts I survey the screen that appears before me.

Leaning back I survey my work, “ahh” I let out a tired sigh. “I’m ready” I say to Grace, “just let me rest awhile” I say while yawning. Walking over to the sleeping bag I crawl into it getting ready to take a nap. Feeling Grace sliding up behind me I lift up my head and set it down on her lap as I drift off to sleep.

  A Few Hours Later

Opening my eyes I look up to see Grace staring down at me smiling. “Good morning” she says to me, while stroking my hair. “Ahh” I yawn getting up. Leaning over I give her a kiss, “Good morning” I say as she starts to blush at me.

I start to stretch, before walking over to the pile of items to look for breakfast. “I took stock of the items” Grace says while still blushing at me. “Thanks” I say as she hands me a notebook.

“Ok” I say thinking that all together we have 95 slots, “Good” I murmur. Getting a sandwich, and passing one to Grace I start separating things into piles as I eat. I pick up the: watch, one of the soft armors, bone bow, blood-stained dagger, shadow iron dagger, leather jacket, half of the painkiller potions, 3 of the stamina potions, 3 of the health potions, the other sandwich, gloves, a stack of notebooks, the needles, the duct tape, the thread, the pencils, the binder, a stack of paper, the pvc, all the arrows, the hotplates, pulverizing sets, pots, clotheslines, textbooks, the flowers, the bones, the leather, the corpse, the eyes, the livers, the blood, the multi-tool, the eyes, the chemistry supplies, the Bunsen burners, the beakers, the hearts, and the safety equipment, and start to equip and store items. Taking my shirt off I put on the soft armor, and put the jacket on over it. I take the: multi-tool, the needles, the duct tape, the thread, the pencils, the binder, the notebooks, the pvc, the hotplates, pulverizing sets, the pots, the clotheslines, textbooks, flowers, various goblin parts, paper, and the corpse and throw them into my inventory. I take the pocket watch and hang it around my neck. I tuck the daggers into the back of my waistband, before taping together all of the quivers and slinging them across my back along with my bow. I store all but 2 of each potion into my inventory before tucking the rest into my waistband and pockets. I pull the gloves on, and look at my status.

“Ok, I’m ready when you are.” I say to Grace. Looking back at her I see she already has her armor on, shield strapped onto her arm, potions tucked into her waistband, and spear in hand, “I’m ready” she says grinning at me. “Ok” I say let’s go.

I glance back and forth as I open the door into the hallway, seeing nothing I start walking as I wave Grace forward. Reaching the door to the “Goblin Throne Room” I start checking to make sure I had everything.

“Ok, are you ready?” I ask Grace. “Unh” she nods. “Well then” I say while pulling my watch off my neck and reaching into my inventory and pulling out the night vision/invisibility potion “let’s go.”

I pass her the watch and drink the potion, “I’ll be right back” I say grinning. Walking through the door I pull out the first of the bombs I roll it to my left, before rolling the second to my right to the left, and rolling the third one straight ahead.

Rushing back towards the door my path is blocked by a smallish, vague, shadowy figure standing before me. Raising up my dagger just in time, the figure’s shield slammed towards me knocking me off my feet and sending one of my daggers out of my hand.

  -3Hp.

“Roar” I shout using “War Cry”, rushing forward jabbing with my dagger, I attempt to kill the figure. As I reach the figure it quits acting confused, and swings its axe that had been hidden behind its shield towards me. Ducking down under its swing, I slash towards its ankle, knocking it over and leaving a nasty gash. As I raise my dagger and prepare to drive it into the Goblin’s throat, a sense of danger encompasses me. I roll sideways just in time as the greatsword wielded by “Torkan the Fearsome” Slams down cutting off the head of the goblin that was below me.

Stooping down I pick up my other dagger and barely avoid the attack of the surprisingly quick Torkan. Slashing backwards I manage to barely scratch his arm as he runs past me. Facing off against Torkan, I ready my daggers as he readies his blade. Rushing forwards I drop down and slide between his legs at the last moment, slashing towards his ankles. As I slide under him he leaps into the air avoiding by daggers, but letting me past. As I turn around to once more attack him I hear a shout “Mist of Shadows” Grace says.

As I look at her, the hobgoblin does the same, taking this chance I leap towards him and thrust my dagger forwards into its shoulder. “Raaah” He screams at me in rage swinging his sword towards me and slamming it into my shoulder.

  -14Hp.

“Ahh” I scream in pain as I fly into the ground. As Torkan starts to bring his sword down upon me once more a bone spear haft slams into his legs tripping him. Taking this chance to get up I see a goblin approaching Grace from behind. I throw one of my daggers forward and it slams into the throat of the goblin behind the startled Grace.

As I start to turn towards Torkan I hear Grace scream “Behind you!” Trusting her warning I roll forwards just in time to avoid most of the power behind Torkan’s swing.

  -6Hp.

I grit my teeth and roll to the side as I pull out a “dulling stamina potion” and a health potion and down them both in one go.

  +10Hp. +10Sta. -50% Pain

As relief washes over me I turn only to see Torkan knock Grace to the ground and start to bring his blade down on her. “NO!” I scream, unconsciously activating “War Cry.”

  -5Mp.

Swinging the blade down all Torkan managed to do was pin his own foot to the ground. Taking this opportunity I dash forward and slam my blade into his throat.

A plethora of messages bombarded me as the light went out of Torkan’s eyes. As I tried to read the messages I hear a shriek coming from behind me. I drop my dagger and roll out of the way as a goblin scout goes flying past me. Pulling my bow from my back I load a poisonous arrow to the string and release it into the back of the goblin’s head.

Setting an “Iron Arrow” to the string I pull it back and send it towards a Goblin Skirmisher breaking its shield.  Dropping my bow and picking up one of my daggers, I step to the side and drive the blade into its throat.

Leaving the dagger embedded in its throat I pick my bow up and set an “Iron Arrow” to the string, before releasing it into the side of a goblin scout. Setting another arrow to the string I prepare to finish it off. As I pull the arrow back I feel a burning pain coming from my side.

  -14Hp. You are “Bleeding”

“Arghh” I shout out in pain as the goblin pulls his blade from my side. Pulling a poisonous arrow from my quiver I drive it through its eye socket into its brain.

Leaving the shattered arrow embedded in its eye socket I pick up my bow and set an arrow to the string. Looking back to check on Grace I see the hallucinating goblin swinging its spear towards imaginary enemies as it approaches Grace. Pulling the arrow back I send it flying into the knee of the goblin. Grace steps forwards as it flails and embeds her spear into its chest, leaving it lying by the one she had already defeated.

Feeling an impact slam into my back, I’m thrown off my feet.

  -6Hp.

I swing my bow, and knock the goblin that hit me off its feet. Pulling an arrow from my quiver I slam it into the goblin’s throat as it falls to the ground.

Looking around me as I get up I see the last unharmed goblin trying to flee while pulling a “Goblin Slave” behind it. Taking my time I Set an arrow to the string and carefully aim as I pull it back, releasing it into the goblins neck.

Looking around once again I realize that all of the non-paralyzed goblins are dead. As I Wave Grace over to me we start to kill the paralyzed goblins.

As we reach the 2nd paralyzed goblin it wakes and starts to slowly get up. Not giving it the chance I slam my dagger into the back of its neck.

Approaching Olivia she stands and, seeing us coming towards her quickly bows down in surrender. “What should we do about her?” I ask turning towards Grace. “What do you mean” Grace asks. “Well she is surrendering” I say. “Well their isn’t really anything we can do is their?” she says questioningly. “Well I do have one skill that…”I say trailing off. “That what” she asks. “One skill that allows me to enslave willing individuals” I say shying my eyes away from her. “What!?” She says “Why didn’t you tell me?” she asks angrily. “I didn’t want this to happen, I got it when we formed a party” I explain while wincing. “So what should we do” I ask her. “Did you say a willing individual?” She asks confused. “Well yeah one that has submitted to my will” I say looking at her. “Well than… Try it” she says with weak determination lacing her voice. “Ok here goes nothing” I say.

“Hello Master” says a voice in my head. “What the Hell” I say in surprise. “What’s wrong?” Grace asks rapidly. “Yes Master, what’s wrong?” asks the voice. “What the, Olivia is that you?” I ask aloud. “Yes Master” the voice says in my head. “Who are you talking to?” Grace asks while giving me a strange look. “Olivia, she’s talking to me in my head” I say to Grace. “Really” she asks giving me another look. “Yes Grace really” I say. “he..llo gray…ss” Olivia attempts to say. Grace’s eyes bulge out as she hears her. “Come on Grace we need to gather everything and figure out what to do with them” I say pointing at the “Goblin Slaves.” “What do you mean do with them?” Grace asks me. “Master?” Olivia says to me questioningly, in my head. “Yes, what do you want Olivia?” I say turning towards her. “’Those women are impregnated with goblin children, which means that they have lost their will to live as well as their minds and will die upon giving birth” she explains with her eyes downcast. “What did she say?” Grace asks, and I explain it to her. “That… That’s terrible” she says quietly. “Yeah, it is but there’s nothing we can do about it” I say to her. ”Well what do we do now?” she asks. I think about it for a moment before answering “Let’s clean up, but first.”

  Eye of the Beholder Steal.

“Spd. and Race change?” I say disbelievingly. “What are you talking about?” Grace asks me, in response I pass her the race change book. “Here Olivia use this skill book” I say, after thinking for a few minutes.

  Eye of the Beholder Copy

I give my “Bloodstained Iron Dagger” and my “Shadow Iron Dagger” to Olivia and hold the “Shadow Iron Axe” in my right hand, before strapping the “Aegis of Wind and Earth” to my left arm.

Hearing screeching coming from behind me I turn only to see 4 green balls and four corpses lying on the floor. “What should we do” Grace asks. “I don’t know” I say. “Olivia, what do you think?” I ask looking at her. “I…I… check if their alive first they’re often stillborn from human mothers” she says quietly in my head. Walking over I check all four of them and sigh in relief “Ahhh, they’re dead” I say. “I think we should go back” I say. “Yeah we probably should” Grace says agreeing with me and looking towards the door.

Walking through the door I glance back at the scene behind me, before continuing to walk towards the bathroom. Reaching the door I glance back and forth before opening it and ushering the girls in.

Taking off my armor and emptying my inventory onto the floor I start to once again separate things into piles in the end they look like this.

  My Pile

  Grace’s Pile

  Olivia’s Pile

Taking one of the sacks and throwing it into my inventory, I take one of each bag and give them to Olivia. “Use these” I say to her. “Yes Master” she says in my head. Taking the sandwiches out of Grace’s pile and taking three of the sleeping bags out of Olivia’s, I take one of each and pass the others to Grace and Olivia. As I start storing items into my inventory I tell the girls which piles are theirs. Taking my bedroll I lie it down in the center of the room between the two girls and lay down to go to sleep. I hear a noise and look over only to see Grace sliding her bed roll towards me. “Couldn’t sleep I suppose” I say while grinning at her. She blushes, but that doesn’t stop her from lying down next to me. I pull her over on top of me and pull her bedroll on top of us to use as a blanket. “Better?” I ask her as I lean up and give her a deep kiss. “Maybe a little” she says while blushing at me. “Let me help you then.” I say as I roll over on top of her and start kissing down her face and neck. “Ohhh” she groans. “Stop” she groans out weekly. “Why?” I ask lust crowding my vision. “She’s here” she whispers. “Wh-“I start to say before realization dawns on me. “Fine” I say pouting at her before starting to kiss her again, “Much better” she says referring to our earlier conversation.
