XX. Meditation

Komari meditated under Yaddle's watchful eye, the latter was still in awe of Yaddle's ability to protect him to immerse himself in the force so quickly. Usually, for an initiate of his age, this kind of session was a torture because it took time for them to succeed in immersing themselves in the force.

Yet, despite her white hair turning gray from the dust of the archives, despite Windu's intimidating presence, she managed to fully immerse herself in the force.

While trying to touch his spirit through the force, Yaddle realized that once again it was impervious.

Despite her inability to read the initiate's emotions, she could observe the force around her, like waves crashing on reefs, the force was dense around Komari.

Almost suffocating, still too raw to reassure Yaddle. Immersing herself in her memories, the old Jedi Master looked for where she had already felt such a sensation.

She goes back centuries to when she was still a young Jedi, she landed on a wild planet during her hunt for a user on the dark side.

The latter was a terrible adversary having already killed many prestigious Jedi Masters. Yaddle had then found herself totally overwhelmed by the latter, yet duty and a touch of anger had pushed her to hunt down her enemy.

She had failed and ended up smashing to the ground at the mercy of her opponent.

And a beast had appeared, a strange, ancient animal that she had never seen since. She didn't remember the shape of the animal but still remembered the raw strength she had felt then.

A purely natural force, raw, neither dark nor luminous, just wild. A force so brutal in his nature that the master of the dark side had been pulverized by it.

Komari had the same relationship with force as this animal, a primal, raw relationship with force. And as with the animal, these bonds were only perceived once she really let herself go in the force. It was both fascinating and terrifying.

"Komari seems to have refined her meditation technique, before she stayed more on the surface," Windu informed her through a power bond so as not to disturb Komari who was meditating.

"She seems to have found a technique that suits her, but I can't clearly identify which technique she should use," she replied. Until now, although Komari is easily immersed in meditation, she had never gone very far in the heart of the force. This despite the various meditation techniques tested. It was in fact understandable the usual techniques of the order was not suitable for someone with such a relationship with the force. It was like trying to put a patch on a very high-flow, inefficient pipe.

"Look," Windu warned, pulling her out of her thoughts. In front of them, Komari sat cross-legged and began to avoid her in the air, his hair standing on end.

The levitation of force, was the symbol of a deep connection in strength. A state of transcendence between the practitioner and the force.

It was actually a rather difficult state to reach even for more experienced Jedi, moreover there was no method given to approach it unlike meditation.

Komari remained levitating for a few minutes before starting to waver, she opened her eyes and noticed that she was flying.

Under the amusing gaze of Windu and Yaddle, she crashed to the ground, totally unfocused from handling little elegance.

"That was interesting.... From start to finish," Windu commented with amusement as Komari grimaced as he rubbed his buttocks in pain.

This made Yaddle smile, who had feared that Windu and Komari's divergent personalities would cause them to kill each other. In the end, some agreements had germinated between them, a sign that they had much more to do than they wanted to admit.

"It was..... Komari stood up, trying to dust off his hair in vain, "I'm not sure I enjoyed this state of transcendence. No, in fact I hated it. ?

Yaddle and Windu gave each other a quick look, usually it wasn't the expected reaction to this kind of event.

"Anything bothered you during your meditation?" asked Windu, frowning.

The master received no answer, instead he saw that Komari's gaze was staring at something in a corner of the room.

Although Komari was good at displaying a mask on her face, he could still read on her the regret and pain she was staring at the wall.

Indifference to the looks of the two masters on her, Komari tried to chase away the whispers that were getting more and more taken since she had meditated.

The only thing she had seen during her trance was the dead faces of her loved ones as well as their screams of pain. They were suffering, cursing her for not having managed to protect them as she had failed to save her mother.

No matter how much she closed their eyes, they were there in her nightmares, there in their ghostly form when she opened them again. Last Yaddle stood Simon, his little brother, his skull still shattered and his limbs disjointed, his gaze filled with pain fixed on her.

Windu's way pulled her out of her little world "what did you see in your meditation?" Komari turned his head to smile at him, a smile and a face with an arrogant look.

"Nothing very important. Although I enjoy our little session, I have to go and take my classes at the Organa's, have a good day. She said before heading for the exit without giving them time to answer.

Her rapid change in disposition did not surprise the two masters, they were used to her hiding her true feelings behind an arrogant and carefree face.

"Do you still think that taking time away from it would be beneficial to him?" asked Windu of Yaddle, who heaved a long sigh.

"This child is suffering and doesn't want help. Or rather, she looks at our help with a certain suspicion. So I think that giving him the opportunity to get out of the framework of order will be beneficial to him. The little Jedi Master explained, smoothing her clothes. "And I think your action of sending it to the Archive had the same purpose. To give him space away from the eyes of other Jedi. ?.

"Did you feel his connection to the force? I had never felt this before. It had something.... worrying. ?

Yaddle frowned, "There's nothing to worry about, Master Windu. His connection to the force is just more primal, far from what you've felt so far but in no way threatening. She explained, not wanting Komari's special connection to the force to be taken by some uneducated people as an aberration.

Although in a bad mood, Komari was delighted to see Tola waiting for him not far from the meditation room. The latter could not hold back a thin smile on her face at the sight of the deplorable state of Komari's hair.

"Are you trying a new color?" she said to him before screaming when Komari waved his hair in her direction, sending dust to his face.

"I feel like I have dust all the way down to my sinuses. Even the gas mask did not manage to filter everything, it is a real pleasure. Komari grumbled.

She had been working for almost 3 months at the archives. His routine alternated between training at the temple, chore at the archives and 1 day on two studies with the Organa.

Her schedule was overloaded compared to that of the other initiates, which had drastically reduced the time she could spend with her friend. So it was always a pleasure to be able to share some time with Tola.

Tola handed him what must have been roots, "Here is your lunch, I got it from the canteen."

Komari sighed as he took the package, despite all her efforts she was still condemned to have to eat those damn roots. The worst thing was that she was starting to get used to it so much.

Despite everything, she bit into the root, grimacing to Tola's delight.

"I have to join the Organa for the afternoon classes, will you accompany me to the shuttle?" she asked Tola, who nodded.

On the way, Tola told her about the few events that had agitated the snake clan during the classes she did not attend. As Komari had suspected, her private lessons did not please some initiates who clearly expressed their frustration with her.

But in Tola's opinion, some of the clan's insiders were impressed by his rescue from the supreme chancellor, and many wanted to know more than the crumbs left by the Jedi masters.

Even Tola regularly questioned her about it, but Komari respected the Council's requests and let little information leak through. It had become his favorite way of teasing Tola.

"Are you going to participate in the insider competition?" asked Tola as they stormed into the great hall.

Komari grimaced, the temple allowed initiates to compete in competitions 2 times a year. These competitions were intended to allow initiates to demonstrate their skills in order to attract the attention of a potential Jedi master who could elevate them to the rank of padawan. There were several tests of mastery of strength in sword fighting.

But Komari did not like this style of competition, indeed the initiates who were not selected with a great chance of ending up in the service corps. These bodies were the linchpin of the Jedi temple and if officially their members were integrated "voluntarily", in reality they were relegated there and forgotten. This was despite the fact that many of them had potential but there were not enough Jedi Masters to train them. It was therefore with fear in her stomach that the initiates participated in the competitions and personally she did not think that it was a good way to test the skills of future Jedi and padawan.

Even Tola, generally calm, seemed to be agitated and worried at the competition avenue, she had even asked Komari not to give her flowers during training, sincerely hoping to be taken as a padawan by a Jedi master.

"I don't see the point of participating in such competitions, it's more of a fair show for the old-timers than an interesting event. So no, I'm going to find a way not to participate in this competition. ?

His answer drew a dark look from his friend.

"Don't take it lightly, you could be sent to the service corps!" scolded Tola.

"In my case, it's unlikely. In addition, you are not obliged to be integrated into the body, at least legally. It is even an opportunity to be free. She tried to reassure her but without success. It was obvious that can initiate relegate to the service corps was not going to assert their right to their free will. They had all grown up in the Jedi Order, and leaving it was surely far more terrifying than being relegated to a lost planet belonging to the Order. The social context within the order meant that few of them really thought about choosing independence.

On this point, Komari did not appreciate the actions of the order which, not content with rejecting some of the initiates, made them work in his service without giving them much consideration.

While reading in the temple archives in the company of prison guards, she had learned that some of the members of the order thought that the alternative of service bodies were honorable and brought good to the galaxy. It is true that the assistance provided to disadvantaged members was essential. But the majority of the lower ranks of the order see this as a humiliating demotion. In addition, according to some lost records within the archives, the individuals composing the various service corps had, over time, a mixed relationship with the Republic and order for the most distant worlds.

It was true that it was difficult to be loyal to a Republic or to a Jedi order located at the heart of the core when one works on the outer rim and lives day by day the difficulties of these peoples. Also in these reports there had been some obvious instances of anti-republic and anti-Jedi sentiments within the worlds furthest from the edge. And if the opportunity was surprised to them, the world would gladly secede from the Jedi order.

That's why she didn't want to participate in a competition that was so biased towards the future of these participants. If an individual's life was to be gambled on a single moment and not on these future and past experiences, then it was not worth it. A competition meant nothing, in fact she had observed some initiates or her clan enough to know that some were more talented than others and that they were also more timid in their actions under the gaze of a crowd. And that some had real potential provided they had the opportunity to develop it.

Tola understood her reluctance, she suspected that with her talent Komari to be easily found a master even without participating in the competition.

"I have a Komari idea. Even if you don't want to participate in the competition, could you help us prepare for it? Me and a few students? She asked him hopefully.

Komari winced inwardly but there was no reason why she would refuse, even if she didn't like the majority of initiates, holes are always too immature. Helping them to avoid the biased judgment of the competition would not bother her. Even if it meant that she would see her busy schedule adapted again.

"And who would agree to follow my advice?"

"Tobias Lilou and zang, do you remember them?"

Komari nodded, a Sullustan, a Twi'lek, and a Nautolan. Together, they formed what she called the gang of shy people within the clan. They were never the best or the most gifted of the clan. On the other hand, it was obvious even to her that they had good potential. Zang was very skilled when it came to defending himself with the sword, Lilou had a good level in mastering telekinesis and Tobias was surely the best of them all whether in sword or strength but he lacked confidence.

"And they asked you for my help? Where is it? Komari asked Tola, who then looked away.

  "A bit of both."

"If I train, what do I gain?" at Komari's request, Tola frowned and hesitated.

"You'll have my tablet," she sighed as if Komari was stealing her soul.

All initiates were provided with a tablet so that they could perform their exercises, revise their courses and receive information from the temple. Komari had discovered to his amazement that the wise Tola had managed to modify her tablet to be able to access the holo net stream from the outside. And all this with the aim of... to be able to watch cartoons and nothing else.

It was Tola's shameful little pastime, which made Komari laugh a lot. But she understood his gait, there were few means of distraction in the temple, I do for children of their age.

Accepting to give up her tablet, her precious, indicated to Komari that she was serious about her idea of training the gang of the shy.

She sneered and patted him on the head, "For revenge, keep your damn tablet and warn the others that what I'm preparing for them is going to be hellish." Then she left him, whistling, to join the shuttle that was going to take him to the Organa's.
