XVIII. The queens opinion

Komari spent the rest of the morning talking to the queen, from the contact with the latter she had understood that she would do everything possible to prevent the disastrous coming of alderaan and his family.

And even though Komari was uncertain about her ability to achieve fate-changing achievement, she was willing to try.

The green-eyed girl was surprised to find that Mazicia Organa had a pronounced distrust of the Republic even though her own family was one of its founding worlds. Faced with her astonishment, Mazicia explained these reasons.

Corruption had become endemic to all levels of the Republican administration, even becoming a habit within these legislative bodies. Nothing was achieved without bribes, pressure or blackmail. Everything was bought or bargained, and all this was always for the benefit of the same individuals.

The Senate, the representative body of the governments of the galaxy (and not of the peoples) had lost its prestige, all the debates now focused on questions of money, influence or corruption, more or less proven, everyone had their hand in the pot.

One of the reasons for the royal family's presence on the planet in addition to accompanying their son was to receive the result of the investigations carried out by the Alderaan security service on the planet's own senator.

A senator who was a member of the royal family and who by his actions brought opprobrium on the queen.

She explained to him how laws took decades to be voted on and then applied only to be legally circumvented by amendments or other treaties. The legislation of the Republic had become a snake biting its own tail and it took an expert in the legal field to understand this or that decree or its hidden meaning.

For example, slavery was officially forbidden within the Republic, but it could exist in other less explicit forms such as debt servitude, local exceptions due to this or that cultural particularity, or simply by the flagrant lack of respect for the laws.

Reflecting on what Queen Komari was telling him, he understood something that these visions had not described to him. The Sith were not responsible for the moral decline of the Republic, they were neither the cause nor even a symptom of it.

It was indeed the fact of the Republic, of its inhabitants, of their greed and arrogance. It had just made it easier for the Sith to schem. If we had to look for the cause, we had to turn to the Jedi who had, since the reforms of Ruwan, close their eyes to many problems.

In addition to the internal crisis of the Republic, the latter was facing what it called an internal division. Historically, the Republic was formed in what were known as the Core Worlds, which over time had become the political and economic center of the galaxy.

But for some time now, the worlds of the outer rim had begun to become stronger and stronger economically and politically.

They had the ambition to compete with the old economic centers such as Cornelia and Coruscante.

The queen revealed to Komari that the economic development of the border was beginning to seriously worry the core worlds that were seeing their economic and political hegemony slip away from them. They did have advantages such as a much larger population and a higher density of inhabited people.

Where the watches on the border had an extremely important economic and technological development for them.

In fact, there was no great political difference between the trade federation, the Fed-Dub or the Cornelian diktat.

All of them used all means to their advantage to win economically, the Cornelian republic was infamous for using pirates against its economic competitors, while the trade federation used its droid armies to impose itself.

Both had the same methods, but one came from the core and the other from the outer rim, and that was important.

In an attempt to avoid or delay this loss of hegemony, the core members had succeeded in passing laws restricting the economic development of those on the border.

Whether it is tariff rules or new regulations to the advantage of the worlds of the core cella had been very badly received by those of the border.

One of the points of tension within the Republic was the rampant piracy that ravaged trade routes. Pirates were primarily active in the Outer Rim worlds and midworlds, playing on the immense territory and lack of military force capable of stopping them.

Officially, the worlds that were part of the Republic were to limit their military development to a certain degree common to all, and the Republic was to maintain a few fleets in active service capable of solving the problems of piracy.

However, the Republic's main fleets were based in the core worlds and very rarely intervened in piracy crises outside the core, preferring to delegate this task to the worlds involved. Who did not necessarily have the means to keep a war fleet active.

And the limitations on the tonnage of the fleet, coupled with the immense territory and cost of a military deployment with political pressure, made any attempt to eradicate piracy almost nil.

Recently, the trade federation had drastically increased the tonnage of its war fleet while remaining within the regulatory limits. This had nevertheless led to a broad campaign discrediting the trade federation for these actions deemed warmongering.

This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.

Mazicia, by explaining this to him, was trying to make him understand that some had interests in keeping the Republic unstable or even chaotic. And that even in the center of the Kingdom of Alderaan, some members of the royal chamber were pressuring alderaan to disarm the few warships that the royal fleet possessed.

Their interest? To make local trade routes chaotic, which would slow down the supply of goods from the Rim Worlds and at the same time allow manufactured goods within the Core Worlds to increase their prices.

And all this at the risk of weakening Alderaan for their own interests.

There were hundreds, if not thousands, of cases like this.

Komari was impressed by the political vision that the queen had, she had not suspected for a moment that there were so many economic and political stakes in mastering trade routes.

But with the picture the queen painted for her, she gradually understood why and how the outer border was going to secede from the Republic.

It was far from being a matter of right or wrong, more a matter of political and economic independence. If the Republic continued to push to regulate the economy of the worlds on the edge, then they risked no longer being integrated, of remaining with a political entity that only wanted its evil.

"Are they aware that this will lead to a war or at least a secession?" she asked, questioning Mazicia.

"At this point I don't think anyone expects the Rim Worlds to break with the Republic, many believe that the market for the Core Worlds and Mid Rim Worlds is far too big to risk losing," the Queen explained, "but it's forgotten that the Rim Worlds Inner Market is also extremely competitive and capable of matching the Republic." that of the core worlds. Moreover, there is nothing to say that the worlds of the border will follow the Republic. ?

Komari was silent for a moment, knowing from her visions that the Trade Federation would in the future blockade one of the Republic's worlds. And while the influence of the Sith during this upcoming event was clear, it was clear that the Federation had political and economic interests in doing so.

She sighed as she gazed at Coruscante through one of the bay windows in the small living room, it seemed that the galaxy was in a much more complex situation than she had thought until now.

In just a few hours, Komari had learned much more about the reality of the entire galaxy than after six months at the temple.

It wasn't necessarily a good thing for the Jedi Order to ignore intergalactic politics topics with insiders.

Understanding a minimum of the trends and crises that were shaking the Republic was in his eyes essential to act well. Unless, of course, some people advise that it is better to be obedient service-doers than thoughtful ones.

After long hours of discussion, they were joined at the table by Bail and his father, both of whom had horrible faces. Komari sneered as he realized that she hadn't been the only one to abuse alcohol during the evening.

The expression of disgust they made as they swallowed the Organa's special hangover concoction reassured her of its vile taste.

"Komari next time we'll settle for non-alcoholic juice, I feel like my guts are going to go up," Bail complained, holding his stomach, "but by the way, mother, what did you discuss about?"

His mother smiled at him, "It's one thing, my child, that you don't ask a lady, but if you want to know everything, Komari and I agree on many things."

Bail narrowed his eyes as he looked at his friend who shrugged, "Your mother has offered me Alderaan's protection again, I'm not going to refuse your friendship but for personal reasons I still have to train with the order." Komari revealed to him.

"And we agree that education within the order has its limits when it comes to Jedi training. I think I'm going to go and talk to Master Yoda so that part of our young friend's schooling can be spent here with you. Mazicia said.

"Shall we study together? But I'm older than her? Bail wondered.

"My son, you study at home with private teachers, they will have no trouble adapting the curriculum to Komari's level. And if you're older, then you'd better not be caught or overtaken by her, otherwise I'll have your homework doubled. Mazicia's smile sent shivers down her son's spine as his father patted his back.

Mazicia's sideways look at Komari made the latter understand that she had to do everything she could to catch up with Bail's level and thus push him to invest more in these studies.

"Isn't that going to get in the way with the Jedi Order?" worried Bail's father, but it was Komari who brushed off her question, "As long as I take the basic Jedi strength and education classes, they won't have anything to complain about."

When Mazicia Organa wanted you something, she got it, she had accompanied Komari to the temple surrounded by many advisors and jurists. It almost looked like she was going to war or conducting a hostile takeover bid to poach Komari.

And it must be admitted, it seemed that the queen took a malicious pleasure in it.

Komari had not followed him in these discussions with Master Yoda and the rest of the Council. Strangely enough, she preferred to be discreet in the hope that they would forget her little walk outside the walls of the temple and the fact that she had smashed the head of an assassin with a tray... and that she had drunk her mouth.

Unfortunately she could not escape the reproachful look of Tola, who was waiting for her with folded arms. She hadn't even spoken that Komari knew she was going to have a time, unlike Komari Tola was following the rules.

Komari opened her mouth to speak, but before she could say a single word, Tola grabbed her sleeve from her arm and pulled it behind her to go with her.

Komari felt the anger and disappointment emanating from Tola, as well as a great deal of concern. The latter was pulling by the sleeve through the corridors of the temple without saying a word to him. Komari couldn't see her face, but as she watched the people widen their eyes, she knew that she had just broken the usual impassibility that her friend usually displayed.

"Tola where are we going?" she asked her to get answers without much success, "are you mad at me?" again no answer from her friend.

Komari could have easily detached herself from Tola's grasp, but she didn't, we don't want to make her case worse.

Finally, after several minutes of walking through the corridors of the temple, she got the answer from Tola.

"Master Yaddle heard that you ended up dead drunk, so she asked me to take you back to the infirmary." Komari could only wince, She had had the vain hope that these excesses would be forgotten.

"Well, I admit, I abused on that point," she said, making amends to try to calm her friend.

This only reinforced Tola's anger and he tugged at his sleeve.

"It's not only on this point that you abused, Komari you went out without permission, you left the order!!" Growled his friend.

Komari rolled his eyes, "Come on, Tola, it's not like I've deserted the order. I just went outside to get some fresh air."

He had no answer from his friend because they arrived at the central infirmary managed by Master Yaddle. Tola didn't even say a word to the Jedi who was on duty at the time.

To tell the truth, the latter had moved away hastily when he saw his furious face. He could only inform them as they passed him that Yaddle was at a Council meeting.

Under Tola's dark gaze, the poor Jedi tucked his head into his shoulders and left them to their own business.

Inwardly, Komari hoped that the latter would stay with them to spare him the wrath of Tola. But the cowardly Jedi preferred instead to go and sort medical records in an adjoining room, leaving her alone with the devil.

When his friend first turned around, Komari could see his impassive face shattered with emotion.

At that moment, she deeply regretted her actions, although she could read people's emotions, nothing was worse than seeing disappointment, anguish and fear on her friend's face. Then quickly Tola redisplayed her angry face and she growled.

"Why the hell did you want to get some fresh air, Komari? Initiates are not allowed to leave the temple, you know that, what if something had happened to you?!"

Komari scratched his skull "I tell you again, I needed to get some fresh air. You have grown up in the temple since you were a child, you have adapted to their rule, you are determined to follow them. I don't, I don't like this place, Tola I don't feel comfortable. And I don't like to be held back by rules that I don't understand."

These words calmed his friend a little, and he began to calm down. Tola crossed her arms in front of her, a sign that she was still unhappy.

Komari saw her wiggle her nose slightly in a very cute way while she was still trying to appear angry.

"So you weren't going to leave the order forever?" Tola asked him in a small voice.

"But what do you have as an idea? No, of course not, I'll tell you again, I just needed to breathe for a moment." Komari kept to herself the fact that she was certain because at some point she would leave the Jedi order not being at all in accordance with their rules. But at this point, his friend didn't know it, you have to let time take its course.

Relief was visible on Tola's features, but she still tried to keep an angry fa?ade.

"You know you're going to be punished."

Komari only sighed, she was sure that Master Windu was not going to forget his little escapade.

"I know The Bald Man is going to make me see all the colors."

Tola suppressed her smile at the mention of the state of Master Windu's hair. It was certain to her that Komari and the master finally got along quite well, despite the fact that they had constant arguments.

She herself was less and less afraid of the stoic Jedi Master from being in contact with him during Komari's training.

Komari, looking at her, had a thin smile on her face, "you know, Tola, you're cute when you get angry, and even more so when you smile." for all answer, she received a dark look from her friend who instantly resumed his impassive face.

But she could read the embarrassment in his eyes, which made her burst out laughing and provoked the anger of her friend whom he disputed with her.
