Prologue

As Angela turned down the alley she usually took as a shortcut home from school she got the feeling that she was being watched. Angela slowed to take in her surroundings, she turned around but she saw no one and dismissed it as anxiousness to get home and finally start summer vacation, the day had dragged on for what felt like forever seemingly as if time had stopped. She continued on, slightly increasing her pace eager to leave the darkness of the alley for the bright sun in the street. Upon hearing footsteps behind her she whirled around yet again to see nothing “I must be going crazy” she thought aloud. Angela turned again to continue on but found a man blocking her way. There was a flash of silver and she screamed when his knife bit into her flesh, the force of the slice driving the knife through her throat. As she lay there dying, life draining from her body, she got her first look at the face of her attacker. The man had a strong jaw, lips pulled back in a smile similar to a grimace a large protruding curved nose, and cold unfeeling grey eyes. “Why?” she gurgled out, blood pouring freely from her neck. “The Abyss has waited too long for salvation Angela, I'm just speeding up your return” the man said. As the blood pooled around her, her struggles and desperate cries for help coming out as naught but gurgled whispers Angela fell away into The Abyss, her body growing colder by the second. Her last thought… “ I never got to eat my snack pack.”
