Chapter 4

Tina walked off as she didn’t want to waste time waiting to see if FlamingKitten was going to take the quest or not. As much as she was trying to act like an NPC currently, she couldn’t help but suddenly burst out laughing and it wasn’t due to the quest she had just given out. No, it was because of the new player that had logged in. More specifically it was the player’s username.

It’s an obvious fact that when creating a new account, whether it is on a website or an online game, there is a box that says type username here or something equivalent. Well, this player put in Username_Here as his username. From the looks of his starting gear, he picked a mage-type character.

The new mage barely had enough time to look around and take in the current most realistic lifelike game when a blue box popped up in front of him. Unknown to him he had lightened the mood of a certain flower girl so she decided to give him a reward in the form of a quest. The new player was stunned as he didn’t expect to get a quest for just his name alone.

Username_Here took a screenshot of the quest and rushed to start farming not wanting to waste time. He would post the screenshot on the forums later. This would later result in many players wasting hours of time trying to recreate their characters trying to get a bonus quest as he did. This also caused a headache for all the game devs because they never implemented any bonus quests of this type. But they couldn’t exactly come out and openly say that as the screenshot proved otherwise. They were also reluctant to claim that this was a one-time first come first serve thing. Only they knew that it was Tina who had given the quest and not the game system itself as all the players had thought. Who knows if she would do this again.

During his rush, he accidentally ran into FlamingKitten just as she made her decision. This situation might have forced her to accidentally accept the quest instead of denying it if it weren’t for the fact that the system didn’t use a player’s verbal commands. As tempting as the quest rewards and also the reserved donations from her stream were. She still had her bottom line and wouldn’t give up her standards just for a game and some money. Her choice might have been different if her avatar wasn’t using her actual body.

A lot of players were getting angry as FlatIsJustice had been stealing their kills. If it weren’t for the fact that he had spent almost all his money on health and stamina potions, his attack power, and his speed yet low health. He would have been killed a dozen times over from a lot of the players trying to pk him in their anger. He was very determined to complete this quest as fast as possible.

Killing other players gave some exp it wasn’t as lucrative as killing monsters of the same level. Unless a player attacked him first he wouldn’t bother with them. He knew if his name turned red he wouldn’t be able to finish the quest in time even if he did survive. It would take longer to regain the lost karma so the village guards wouldn’t go after him let alone fellow players than he had time for. After a few hours with a few close calls, he finally reached level 12 and headed back to town.

Tina had just entered the pub of the inn to eat some dinner before turning in for the night. To her utter horror, the door had slammed open and she saw FlatIsJustice rushing towards her when she turned around to look. Before she got the chance to get away she was dragged to a table and started getting petted while the quest she gave out was completed. Well, she made it a chain quest for a reason and at least he couldn’t gain his reward just yet as the next part of the quest came up.

To Tina’s disappointment, even the next part of the quest didn’t save her as FlatIsJustice didn’t run off right away like last time. The only upside was that she got a free meal out of it. Well since she had no way of escaping she ate a few meals and being in a game she wouldn’t have to worry about weight. At least she hoped. She did feel hunger twice a day but never had the feeling of being full. This game would be a food junkie’s dream as you can eat all you want without gaining weight but tasting the delicious food. As this was only the starting village the most expensive item on the menu was the basic meal for 20 copper. She had eaten five of them on her tormentor’s tab before he finally paid and left.

Tina had at least two gold worth in copper between all the flowers she sold, monster drops from the few times she was able to hunt, and mostly through selling items back to shops that players would give to her from quests that she handed out. But none of that mattered to her as she quickly paid for a room and decided to hide inside it. Her tormenter couldn’t complete the quest if she hide inside it till it expired.

After a good night’s sleep, Tina found herself utterly bored. There was nothing else to do in this room but she dared not go out. FlatIsJustice was confused as he had purchased all the items needed to give to the adorable flower girl. His quest marker pointed to the village’s only inn but she wasn’t there to be seen.

While waiting in the room Tina realized she could use the game forums and see what the latest topics were among all the players. She realized she had made a mistake but even so couldn’t stop laughing as the top current topics were about the quest that she had given Username_Here. There was even a topic about all the usernames people have tried and listed as they kept resetting their accounts.

A lot of players were also complaining because this was the only area known to hand out secret and hidden quests from a homeless but cute-looking NPC that sold flowers. Players have tried many things to other NPCs in their starting village trying their best to get those special type quests to come up and everything has failed.

To her surprise, a player had already reached level 20 and started the game’s first player guild. As much as she’d like to go check it out it wasn’t anywhere near her location. One had to imagine how hard it was to create a guild in this game. Especially this early on. The cheapest and smallest guild building costs 5 gold coins. 1000 copper was 1 silver and 100 silver was one gold. All the current members must have pooled their money together and then some to make this happen.

Time passed and while Tina was reading on the forums the browser suddenly closed and a warning popped up.

Tina started to panic and complain. For roleplaying purposes, a person had to pay the NPC staff or owner of a place such as an inn to extend their time. This meant she had to leave the room which she was trying to avoid.

FlatIsJustice was just about to give up and send an error report to the GMs of the game till he suddenly saw the cat-girl appear in front of the inn. With a huge smile, he didn’t even waste time and dragged her to the bench in front of the inn. Sure there were other cute lolis and children in this village but none of them were as well designed, detailed, or cute as this flower girl.

All while petting her and ignoring her struggles to get out of his arms he started moving the items in his inventory to her. The only upside to this is that he didn’t skimp on getting cheap items. She was relieved and didn’t want to think about what would happen if this village’s general store sold bigger tents that allowed more than one person at a time in them.

As for armor, she got the most expensive leather armor one could buy in this village as well as an iron short sword. The clothes were simple villager clothes but in a new state with a pink tunic and pants with leather shoes. She cursed in her mind as she was given these clothes. Sure they were great for traveling but they didn’t come in these colors by default. Her tormentor must have used the player shop to buy some dye to color them pink. It was a bright neon pink that would make her stand out anywhere she went as she cursed him in her mind.

Giving him an hour to find two people isn’t long. Especially since hardly anyone has reached level 10 yet and those that have most likely already left the village. Tina also found a downside of being an NPC. The quests can even affect her as she couldn’t control herself as she went to the nearest shop with a changing room and changed into her new bright pink clothes and leather armor. She was unable to change out of her new clothes nor stop herself from changing into them.

“I can’t believe you made me use this name…”, a wolf-kin player complained to his friend who chose neko as her race. She simply replied, “You can only blame yourself for losing the bet.” He shook his head, “Only because you cheated. MrFluffy is not a name a guy like me should ever use. Also, I know you like cats but did you really have to advertise it to everyone? KittenComplex makes you look like you are obsessed with cats.” She only giggled in reply.

MrFluffy stood a good 6 foot tall with strands of white and dark grey hair like a timber-wolf along with wolf-like ears, a tail, and orange eyes. His job in the real world is in construction which is the reason for his toned body. His job class in the game was a hunter and that allowed him to have a tamed pet. The level 8 tamed wolf following him was caught by them in the forest near this starting town. Even his tamed wolf looked more fluffy than he did.

KittenComplex had a black tail and long black hair that went to about the middle of her back. The last inch of her hair and tail was cotton white just like the inside fur of her cat ears. She had an average body that wasn’t too curvy but all that was hidden under her iron armor. She worked out a little to keep her current weight as she worked as a hotel receptionist. The both of them were the only two in their friend circle ever since they graduated high school that didn’t go off to college.

After she finished giggling she was going to reply but someone had walked up to them while asking, “Are both of you planning to head to the next town? I need some help with a mission.”
