Chapter 5: Maybe a Lead
"Three days... I dug into the three suspects. Mayron's the most likely," Kade thought, sitting at his computer. "He served his time and hasn’t gotten into anything new, but the amount of money and guns he has isn’t normal. And he has the same last name as Jason..."
Kade stared at the screen, deep in thought.
"But I can’t move yet. If I don’t wait for the NDU, my identity could get exposed."
He shut his laptop and collapsed onto his bed, eyes heavy.
---
The next morning...
Kade walked toward school, arriving at the same time as Jason.
"Good morning," Kade mumbled.
"Why so blue?" Jason asked, slinging his bag over his shoulder.
"Just sleepy. Anyway, see you at lunch," Kade said, heading off to class.

Lunch break...
"Hey guys, wanna come over to my place after school to chill?" Jason offered, biting into his sandwich.
"Yeah, sure," Elis mumbled, mouth full.
"Where do you live?" Kade asked casually.
"Klinford Estate."
Kade’s eyes sharpened slightly.
(Inner monologue)
"No way... that's where Daymion lives. They’re probably related. This is perfect — a chance to sneak around."
---
After school...
They walked up a long driveway to a massive mansion.
"We’re here!" Jason announced proudly.
"It’s been a while since I’ve been here," Elis said, spinning slowly to admire the size.
Kade looked around quietly, his eyes taking in everything.
"It looks nice," he mumbled under his breath.
Jason led the way through the grand halls toward the backyard, shouting over his shoulder, "Dad! I brought some friends over!"
A casual voice answered from somewhere deeper in the house:
"Alright, just don’t break anything!"
They reached the pool. The afternoon sun bounced off the water, inviting and bright.
Jason and Elis immediately tossed their bags down and jumped into the pool, laughing.
Kade lingered behind.
"Hey, where’s the bathroom?" he asked.
Jason, still floating, pointed lazily back toward the house.
"Third room on the left, down the main hallway!"
"Got it," Kade said, turning away.
(Inner monologue)
"This is my chance... I have to find something."
---
Inside, the house was even larger and quieter than it looked.
Kade moved carefully, checking each door. Most led to boring rooms—offices, guest bedrooms—until one half-open door caught his eye.
He slipped inside.
And froze.
The room was lined with guns—polished rifles, shotguns, pistols—neatly arranged across the walls.
At the far end, a massive desk sat piled with papers, files, and pinned photos.
Kade stepped closer, heart pounding.
One photo caught his eye — lying near the corner of the desk.
His breath hitched.
It was a picture of his dad.
Kade’s entire body locked up, staring at it.
Click.
The metallic snap of a gun being cocked made the hairs on his neck stand up.
"You’ve got some guts, kid," a voice said coldly behind him.
Kade turned slowly.
Mayron stood in the doorway, shotgun raised, the barrel pointed straight at Kade’s head.
