CH. 7

When Qrow was walking, he began pondering. The two people, he assumed to be the anomaly, were unusually ignorant. Aside from the boy's suspicion earlier, they suddenly began to trust him with no suspicion in sight. His brows furrowed. Are they really that gullible? Not to mention, they ck weaponry and armor, simply both of them wore a simple pin-t-shirt. How could they sy a Grimm without even considering the basics of sying one?

Could it be their sembnce that makes them more powerful? Qrow shook his head. No that couldn't be it, even the strongest huntsman would still use a weapon. Only a fool would use a fist in front of a Grimm.

"We're close just by turning this corner over here" Qrow pointed to the direction they would go.

"Okay!" The orange-haired girl reminded him a lot of his niece, Ruby. Personality-wise, they were both... how would he say it? Hyper-energetic. They both had a shine of innocence on their faces. It wasn't a bad thing, but it was concerning. While Ruby had already had her fair share of encounters with Grimm, she was still not ready for what was to come, especially when it came to matters of life and death. That's what he tried to remind her of, yet her response was always the same.

"Okay, this is the clearing. You can sit wherever you're comfortable," Qrow said, shaking away his thoughts. He needed to focus and confirm whether these two were the anomalies Ozpin mentioned or just regur people. He found a fallen log, dusted it off, and sat down. The two did the same, each finding their own log to sit on.

Qrow cleared his throat "Since we're done with the introduction phase already then I'll get straight to the point." He stared at them, eyes serious." Are you guys Huntsman?"

"No," Both of them said, they already had a guess what a huntsman was from being around the vilge for days.

"Alright. So I assume you're not from here, correct?"

  Both nodded

  "Not from Vale?"

  Both shook their head

  "Mistral?"

  Again, they shook their head

  "Vacuo? Ats?"

  Again, both shook their heads.

Qrow sighed. Okay, he never expected this kind of conversation to go in that direction. Nonetheless, it was still within the normal range. Hopefully it stays that way. "Okay, tell me where you guys are from?"

  "Overworld," Both said in unison.

  "Pardon?"

"We're from the overworld" Steve repeated on what they just said.

Qrow tilted his head, wondering what kind of pce would call itself "Overworld"? He hadn't heard of a pce like that before and he was quite familiar with the pces of the entire Remnant. He pulled out a map from his back pocket and spread it out for them to see.

"So, if you'd please tell me where this 'Overworld' is, I would really appreciate it." However, the response he got wasn't what he expected.

"It's not there," Steve answered, shaking his head.

Qrow shot him a perplexed look. "Okay, kid, I'm being serious here. You're telling me the Overworld isn't anywhere on this map, not even on the small isnds?"

  "No," Steve replied firmly.

Qrow ughed. "Okay, you've got to be joking, kid. There's no way—"

"Actually, we're from a different dimension," Alex interjected.

Qrow blinked and looked at her. "What? A different dimension?"

"Uhm, yeah. Dimension? You know, going from pce to pce through some kind of portal. Like the Nether, for example. Don't you guys travel to other dimensions too?" Alex replied as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

Qrow's confusion doubled. He stared at them, his mouth slightly open, not knowing how to respond. 'Are they mentally okay?' Now, he was starting to worry about their mental health.

Qrow took a deep breath before saying, "Alright, kid, I don't know what you mean by 'dimension,' but if you're going to lie straight to my face, at least make it believable."

"It is true," Alex argued with a serious look

Qrow stared at her intently before redirecting his gaze back to Steve, who met his stare evenly. 'This boy is something,' he thought.

"Okay, fine. Let's switch topics." Qrow coughed. "So, about your sembnce. Can you show me an example of it?"

"Sembnces?" Alex tilted her head before her eyes widened in realization. "Oh, you mean crafting?"

Qrow felt he didn't even need to question it. "Then show me this crafting." He assumed they might have simply named their sembnce 'crafting.' That's the only expnation Qrow could come up with

Alex nodded. She raised her palm and a miniature cube appeared from it. With a flick of the hand towards the ground, the miniature figure enrged akin to a small table.

Qrow froze, staring in complete bafflement. He couldn't even manage to speak as he lifted his gaze back to her.

  "So?" Alex asked, eagerly

Steve simply remained silent, watching everything unfold like it was a normal thing.

Qrow managed to compose himself as he pulled out his liquor bottle and drank it. As he finished drinking, he looked at the two and said "That's a very strange sembnce you have." He looked at Steve "You too?"

Steve nodded "Want me to show you?"

"No," Qrow shook his head, ughing silently "No need. I've seen enough." He took another swig from his liquor bottle. As he wiped his mouth, he noticed the boy still staring at him. "What?"

"What are you drinking? Is that a potion?" Steve asked, curiously.

"What?" Qrow repeated with an equal amount of confusion.

"Can you let me try it?"

Qrow narrowed his eyes "Are you sure you're of age that yet kid? Sorry to tell you but drinking alcohol is forbidden to minors" He said, shaking his bottle.

"Alcohol, is that what it is?"

"The best thing in the world, that's what," Qrow said, grunting. "I have one st question" His eyes turned serious as he leaned forward. "Do you guys feel the need to destroy all of humanity?"

Both Alex and Steve blinked at that question. "Why would we do that?" Alex asked confused

Qrow chuckled "Just messin' with you, kid" He stood up. "Well, that ends pretty much with the questions and answers. Easy right"

"It was pretty simple" Alex absentmindedly nodded in agreement

"Told you" Qrow sniggered and dusted his behind. "Now, with the questions done. We should probably part ways by now. I don't want you guys to walk back home in the night. That would be terribly irresponsible of me."

"I have a question to ask" Steve called out, his face showing a rare serious expression.

"Hmm?" Qrow looked at him with a raised brow. He wondered what kind of question this kid would ask for looking quite serious about it. Alex too wondered as well while looking at Steve.

"How do I get more Lien?"

  "..."

  ++++=====+++A couple of hours ter…

Qrow let out a tired sigh. It was te at night when he decided to take a stroll around the forest, killing a few Grimms while he was at it. It was a good stress reliever after the day he'd had. As he turned to another section of the forest, he noticed lights ahead. His eyes narrowed, and his brows furrowed. If he remembered correctly, there wasn't a house there before. Why? Because this part of the forest was where he often strolled to rex.

Not to mention, the light was unusually bright. It would eventually attract a rge number of Grimms in the area.

Qrow took a sip of his alcohol before sprinting ahead.

  On the other side….

  "Come on, Steve, stop running!"

  "I'm not running, I'm evading."

"Stop doing that then!" Alex shouted, raising her sword and trying to strike down Steve. But once again, he quickly evaded her attack. Her frustration grew as she dashed at him without thinking.

Steve raised an eyebrow, seeing Alex rushing at him mindlessly. He lowered his sword and sidestepped just in time, tripping her with his leg and sending her face-first into the ground.

Steve flipped his sword and pointed the edge at Alex. "I win."

  "No fair!"

"It is fair. You said whoever fell loses. You fell, so you lost," Steve argued.

Alex pouted. "Then I want a rematch."

Steve stared at her before looking at the sky. "It's night already. What if there are zombies and skeletons? More importantly, what if those phantoms come? They're pretty annoying to deal with," he grumbled, recalling unpleasant memories of the tter.

Alex sighed as she stood up, dusting off her pants. "Steve, have you not noticed that they don't spawn in this world? All we've got are those Grimm things. At least they're tasty. Too bad we can't cook their rotten flesh. It would make a good soup."

  Steve nodded. "You're right."

  "So, rematch?"

Steve gnced at his sword. "Alright."

Alex grinned and, with a quick motion, tried to sweep her sword toward Steve's neck, but he parried it easily. "Really? A surprise attack?" Steve questioned with a raised brow.

Alex's grin didn't falter. "Gotta have all the advantages." With a quick exertion of force, she pushed him back. Holding a cobblestone block in her left hand, she quickly built a staircase to get to the high ground as she moved toward Steve.

Steve looked up just in time to see a TNT block being dropped. He moved out of the way but was quickly shot in the back by an arrow, causing him to halt and get caught in the TNT's bst range.

  Boom!

Steve was bsted back but managed to maneuver himself, using his hands to flip and prevent himself from falling ft to the ground.

Steve looked ahead and saw Alex with a bow. He quickly equipped a shield as the arrow inserted itself into the wooden frame. He then heard an ender pearl sound behind him and saw Alex an inch away from nding a blow. He stepped back, evading the strike.

Steve quickly adjusted himself as the two began parrying each other's attacks perfectly. With one strong strike between the two of them, both were pushed back simultaneously and were now meters apart from each other.

Alex panted, her shoulders slumping as beads of sweat dripped from her forehead.

Steve looked the same, showing no sign of fatigue.

"You're really tough, taking all those hits," Alex commented, noting Steve's rexed face. It irritated her that she was the one who looked tired while he just stood there, unfazed.

  "Experience is the answer."

"Right, experience. You always say that. What about me? Don't I have tons of experience too?"

Steve looked at Alex. "It's about how you use that experience."

"Huh?" Alex gave him a confused look.

Steve shrugged. "I'm saying you've got a ways to go."

Alex's smile faded, but then she ughed.

Steve smiled at her reaction and couldn't help but to chuckle as well. But then something caught his eye.

"Alex, someone's here." Alex stopped ughing at the mention of those words, her face turning confused again. "What?"

"At your right. Someone's watching us behind the trees," Steve said, prompting Alex to equip her bow and immediately shoot towards the direction where Steve pointed out.

  "Hey! Watch where you're shooting!"

Alex blinked, lowering her bow. "Is that Qrow?" She recognized the figure as soon as he stepped out from the shadows.

Qrow was frowning as he eyed the two of them. "You know, you almost got me killed." He gred at Alex, who whistled and stashed her bow away, trying to look innocent.

"Does my life mean nothing to you two?" Qrow stared at them bnkly before shaking his head. "Don't answer that," he said, cutting off Steve, who was about to respond. He began looking at the house behind the two and couldn't help but stare in amazement. It was beautiful, like every piece of wood was masterfully crafted, and the house was almost rge enough to support two families. Not to mention, it looked very expensive with its designs. He eyed the two of them suspiciously. How did they get this house, and why build it in the middle of the forest? He needed answers.

  "Did you two build this?"

Alex blinked at the question and pointed at Steve. "Steve built this by himself." She shrugged. "I'm not that good of a builder like him, so he takes all the credit for this."

Qrow quickly turned to Steve in disbelief. "You built this by yourself?"

  Steve nodded.

"How long did it take you to build it?"

  "About two days."

Qrow blinked, his mouth failed to utter words for a quick moment, struggling to process what he heard. "I'm afraid I heard that wrong. Can you say it again?"

  "Two days."

"I must be drunk. Say it again, please."

  "Two days."

Qrow fell silent. There was no lie in the boy's words or expression. Was this kid serious?! "Two days..." He began still finding it hard to believe "Two days, and you built this massive house in two days?"

"It's not that massive. I could've done better," Steve replied, looking disappointed.

What do you mean you could do better?! Qrow had the urge to sp both the boy and himself, but he held it down. The urge was strong, though. He shook his head. 'Calm down, Qrow. You've seen much worse than this.' He took a deep, calming breath. "So is this part of your sembnce?"

"You mean crafting? Then yes," Steve answered.

Qrow nodded. That expined some things, but still, when he looked back at the house and how they fought, something was really strange about them. He didn't know whether to deem them dangerous or...

"Anyway, why were the two of you fighting?" Qrow asked, specifically eyeing the arrow still sticking out of Steve's back. "And shouldn't you pull that out and, I don't know, get some first aid?" He pointed at the arrow.

"Oh, you mean earlier? We were having a friendly spar," Alex said cheerfully, finding nothing wrong with her expnation.

"Sparring? Tell me, does it involve using a literal arrow in the back and explosions?"

"Oh, don't worry, Steve's a lot tougher than he looks. After all, he beat the Ender Dragon twice—"

  "Thrice."

"Thrice," Alex corrected herself, thanks to Steve, with a firm nod.

"Ender what now?" Qrow was even more confused. A dragon? Do these two think I'm a fool?

"Okay, I don't know what food or drink you two are consuming to spout nonsense like this but fuck it, I'm not even going to question it anymore." Qrow ughed before taking a swig from his bottle, only to realize it was empty. "Ah, it's empty. Great, fucking great."

He then noticed the two of them staring at him like he was some caged animal. "What?"

"I noticed you have a sword behind you. How did you do that?"

  "Do what?"

  "Put it behind you."

"What?" Qrow asked, furrowing his brows.

  "Like—"

"Kid, just stop with the strange questions. I'm begging you," Qrow cut him off, massaging his temples. 'Man, I need a stress reliever.' He thought, and then an idea popped into his mind. He looked at Steve, grinning like he just found the best way to relieve the stress especially if the reliever was the source of it.

"Hey, Steve, or whatever your name is. Can you fight?"

Steve gave him a bnk look, yet Qrow saw a rare glint in his eyes. He grinned.
