He gritted his teeth as he watched the scene unfold before him. 'Unbelievable.' Who in their right mind walks so close to a construction site with their dog? And right next to a beam that looked like it could snap at any moment? The woman—oblivious to the danger—was cooing at the dog as though nothing was wrong, as if there wasn’t a giant death trap waiting to fall right on top of her.
‘How can you not see the danger? Is she blind or just this stupid?’
He muttered under his breath, fuming at the ridiculousness of it all. But despite how infuriating her presence was, he couldn't just stand there and let her die under a pile of rubble. She was clearly too dense to realize what was happening.
Then, as if on cue, the cord snapped. The beam creaked ominously, and time seemed to slow. His body moved before his brain could even catch up.

‘Great.’ he thought, pushing the frustration aside. ‘I’m probably going to die trying to save a dog I don’t even like.’
With no hesitation, he sprinted toward the woman, grabbed the dog in his arms and threw it as far as he could. Just as he turned to shield her from the falling beam, the world went dark.
The last thought that echoed in his mind before the beam came down on him was bitter. ‘She better appreciate that I saved her damn mutt.’
