Chapter 21: Keraunos

“Heed my call… Keraunos!” Tetho yelled loudly.

“You may be able to control inanimate objects, but let me see you control this. This is the lightning that was said to be wielded by Zeus. It’ll destroy you without a trace!!!”

In an instant, dark clouds formed within the sky and nonstop rumbling pierced the air. You could see bolts of lightning shoot out of the clouds, but they only traveled a few feet before returning. The strongest lightning bolt was building up to strike Zazi.

“There’s only one type of lightning, to my knowledge, that surpasses this — and it’s lightning from the heavens itself. Withstand this for its full 30-second rampage and show me that you are worthy of my going all out!!”

Zazi had a calm expression. He couldn’t sense the man’s synergy, nor could he sense how strong the lightning would be. It was as if he wasn’t using synergy at all.

He didn’t want to risk getting hit by this unknown power, so his plan was to dodge and counter from there.

The clouds parted and a massive lightning bolt appeared in the sky. It didn’t have the appearance of ordinary lightning. Instead, it took the appearance of a pure solid with a zigzag pattern and emitted an eye-blinding blue glow. This was Keraunos, the lightning bolt said to be wielded by Zeus.

Moments after the cloud split, many electrical charges of lightning zapped from the huge lightning bolt, destroying the ground repeatedly throughout the entire area. Many parts of the ground broke into pieces, leaving rocks, dirt, and even big boulders scattered across the field. The lightning was out of control.

“Kill him…” said Tetho. The second he spoke those words, bolts of lightning raced from the huge lightning bolt and charged towards Zazi. Zazi calmly looked at the lightning racing towards him when suddenly large pieces of the ground intercepted the lightning.

The lightning was extremely powerful and utterly destroyed the intercepting pieces, which took Zazi by surprise. He was hoping that they would be able to halt the lightning, but they didn’t stand a chance in front of that massive power.

The lightning was a few meters away before Zazi jumped to the right and dodged it as it struck the ground, destroying it. If that was all, then Zazi would have been fine, but many more bolts of lightning came rushing towards him.

Right as he dodged the first bolt, the second one was within his vicinity and about to strike him. He controlled a piece of the ground that was destroyed by the first bolt and sent it flying into himself, pushing him away. Right as the ground pushed into him, the lightning bolt struck that controlled piece, which sent electrical charges into Zazi’s body.

Zazi coughed up a small amount of blood as more bolts were rushing towards him.

“Shit, that hurt — and it didn’t even directly hit me! I have to do something, or I’ll be severely hurt, if not dead,” Zazi mumbled.

Suddenly, an idea clicked in his head.

“Aoto, shatter the entire ground!!” Zazi yelled to get Aoto’s attention, who was fighting the knight.

“Got it!” responded Aoto as he jumped into the air and thrusted both legs into the knight, successfully doing a dropkick. The dropkick pushed the knight a considerable distance away. As Aoto was falling, he twisted his body to the right and punched the ground with his entire might.

Cracks appeared throughout the entirety of the battlefield when it suddenly exploded into pieces. Gigantic pieces of the ground flew everywhere, and the entire battlefield changed from this one punch. As the air was flooded with debris, it all suddenly froze.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

“Perfect, Aoto…” Zazi said quietly. Zazi stopped all of the debris in midair with his control. This entire plan would give him a huge advantage against Tetho and Keraunos.

Lightning raced towards Zazi as he dashed forward, aiming directly towards Tetho. He only needed to hold out until the 30-second rampage ended.

His running speed towards Tetho was extremely fast. Gusts of wind blew parts of the ground away as the climax of this part of the battle was coming.

As he ran, tens of lightning bolts came rushing. Two bolts were only a few meters away before ten large rocks intercepted them, stopping them in their tracks. Four more bolts were inches away from his head, coming from four different angles, as he slid on the ground to successfully dodge them. His momentum didn’t stop in the slightest.

He slid on a part of the ground that was under his control and used it to launch himself and the piece into the sky at fast speeds. The barrage of lightning didn’t stop, as more steadily came his way.

All of these events happened in such rapid succession.

As he was in the sky on the ground that he controlled, multiple lightning bolts were straight ahead and heading straight towards him. Hundreds of pieces of the ground rapidly flew to surround him. They were all of different sizes and shapes — some were huge while others were small, some were flat plains while others were jagged and had abnormal shapes. Despite the hundreds of pieces being scattered everywhere around Zazi, they formed a path leading straight towards Tetho.

  This was the final push.

The oncoming lightning split and scattered into hundreds of rays as they rushed towards Zazi from every angle possible. Any object in their path was completely eradicated.

Zazi jumped from the platform and immediately landed on another platform — but he didn’t stop there. The moment he landed, he immediately jumped to another, then another. This happened tens of times as the lightning chased him. From an outside perspective, Zazi was a white ray of light that was being chased by lightning. Within a mere few seconds, Zazi had already jumped and landed on tens and tens of platforms while the lightning rapidly chased him down.

The lightning was closing in on Zazi, who was mustering all of the speed he could. Most of the rocks were destroyed by the out-of-control bolts of lightning while they chased Zazi, leaving his path minimal. The distance between him and Tetho was closing, while the distance between him and the lightning was closing even faster.

More seconds passed as this amazing scenery unfolded. Zazi rapidly pulled hundreds of more controlled pieces in the vicinity to give him more options to land and jump on, while he constantly closed the gap in distance.

  3 seconds left…

Zazi was pushing himself to his limit, trying to escape the lightning. Hundreds of bolts of lightning chased this white ray of light across the entire battlefield as it constantly moved between tens of platforms per second. Veins started showing on Zazi’s face. He only needed to hold out a little longer…

  2 seconds left…

Destruction was everywhere. This scene was so intense that, even in the midst of battle, Aoto had to constantly glance in amazement. From his perspective, bolts of lightning filled the entirety of the sky as they chased a white ray of light. That white ray of light left a trail of light in its path as it was constantly moving between tens of platforms every second.

  1 second left…

Zazi was within twenty feet of Tetho, who had a nervous expression. He couldn’t understand how Zazi was evading the pursuit of the lightning. This lightning was pure destruction that laid waste to anything it came into contact with, and Zazi was evading all of it. He had hope that the lightning would catch up to Zazi before Zazi reached him. He had hope, until…

  .5 seconds left…

Half a second. That’s all Zazi needed to outlast. Half a second. Within these three seconds, he had reached Tetho. He mustered every ounce of strength he had. Veins popped out of his face, blood flowed from his eyes beneath the blindfold. This punch was everything he had as he dashed towards Tetho. Half a second — that was the deciding factor in this fight. Simply, half a second.

  .1 seconds left…

At this time, Zazi’s fist had connected with Tetho’s face. This punch was backed by all of his power. His synergy base couldn’t have been rotated any faster than at this moment. This was his everything. At the same time, the lightning had caught up with him. .1 seconds. If only he had been .1 seconds faster. Many of the lightning bolts reached the lower half of his body. In an instant, every bone in his legs shattered. Electricity traveled throughout his entire body, damaging the entirety of it.

At the same time, the electricity that traveled through his body ran its course and traveled into Tetho through the fist connecting to his body. Electrical discharges invaded Tetho’s body through his face, causing immense pain and shattering his jaw as it traveled through the entirety of his body.

As the lightning flooded their bodies, severely damaging them both, Zazi’s fist, backed by his full power, struck Tetho and sent him flying into the distance, crashing into the wall. An ear-deafening shockwave exploded in the air as the punch connected.

All of this happened in an instant. The same instant.

Zazi’s body fell to the ground. Blood flowed from his eyes beneath his blindfold. The bones in his legs and other parts of his body were broken. The skin on the lower half of his body was completely missing, and all you were able to see were the muscles that made up his legs. This was the power of Keraunos. He was unconscious as he lay in a puddle of blood.

Tetho was leaned up against the wall, also unconscious. Half of his face was severely burned by the lightning, completely destroying the skin. The top half of his face was normal while the lower half simply showed his facial muscles. He suffered the same fate as Zazi but on a lesser scale. His jaw was completely broken as his body lay motionless on the ground while blood oozed from his mouth.

This was the power of Keraunos…

This is the result of the intense power of Keraunos!! While that battle comes to an end, Aoto still contends with the summoned knight. Will he be able to overpower it and grant them victory!?
