Chapter 3: Oren Fregan.

The light bulbs flickered a yellow glow in the dimly lit streets, the place looked eerily silent with no passing cars or people walking around.

Oren lay in his own pool of blood, staining a large patch on the hard ground, his eyes weakly gazing at the sky. His eyelashes struggled to stay open, while his black pupils wavered at the coldness he felt.

His heart continued struggling to cling for life, but Oren had long seen his death, the cold of the falling night seeping into his body.

He never in his life believed something that only happens in the movies would happen to him, and it happened so abruptly.

  Life surely is fickle.

“So this is the end…” Oren vomited blood, his pale lips quivering.

Before him, the clouds slowly passed between his eyes as time slowed down, his mind occupied while the realization sank in; he was dying.

Suddenly, overlapping images and scenes flashed between his pupils, and Oren started to remember his life…

In movies, when someone faces death’s door, their life flashed before their eyes, and they remember it clearly as if they're living it in seconds.

And that's what happened to Oren at this very moment.

Oren could see a young version of him, wearing the same style. Draped in a large hoodie and sport pants, he was eating breakfast with a blurred figure.

He didn't know much about who it was, nor could he clearly see the figure's features. But one thing Oren felt was right, and that was the man was a neighbor, that's all he could describe about the figure.

He could see Oren Fregan's life begin at that moment, living with a strange neighbor, happily and alone.

He didn't remember anything before that time, only that he doesn't have parents, he was an orphan, and he got to live with that neighbor.

He never asked or tried to search for his parents, nor did he ask why the man took him to stay inside his house.

He embraced his life like usual, going to school and watching movies back home to pass time. He didn't have friends nor was he a social enthusiast; just a weird kid with only school and movies on his growing mind, no inspirations or big dreams filling his head.

Oren remembered those times vaguely, but he could feel as if he's reliving his life.

One day, Oren had marked a high score on an exam, and as a reward he was given a movie ticket.

He will go to the cinema on the first release of an action movie!

Oren was happy at that time and went to the cinema, only to find that the place was occupied by another weird guy. The kid was the same age as him, and probably more introverted than him just from one look.

He recalled that it was the day his lonely life changed, it was the day he met Alfred, who was occupying the wrong seat, and got into an argument with Oren, they fought for the seat in front of the crowd before the movie even started.

In the heated moment, as Oren was dead set to watch the movie, he forcibly pulled Alfred out and they started a fight over the seat, an employee had to intervene to resolve the issue.

Recalling those young times, Oren wanted to laugh in amusement at their childishness, but he couldn't move a muscle, again he lamented how unfortunate his life is.

Why does it have to end so soon? Will Alfred ever remember me after I die? Probably not, all that maggot thinks about is games. Oren conversed internally.

After that, Oren returned to his mundane life, going to his middle school like his usual lonely self, until a few days after, a student got transferred to his class; it was that hateful Alfred!

As a consequence, they fought again, but this time no one stopped them until they were tired, and they had to come to terms with it. Days passed with their hateful meetings until fate willed it, and they became friends.

Slowly, they got used to each other, just like two magnets attracted to each other, and they were also similar to two faces of a single coin; introverts with the same obsession.

They first studied in the same middle school, went to the same high school, then they applied to the same university for the same major!

Oren really doubted if they even had a difference, but that thought quickly vanished as a single answer hung inside his mind: A LOT!

There is no way he was similar to that maggot, no way! Oren can't accept it.

New Highs University is a wide branched and popular institution, and it's considered one of the biggest academies in the country.

They spent their days together, playing games and watching movies, life continued in fun and all.

Until one day, again, Oren didn't know what happened, but the neighbor he lives with isn't there anymore, and the house they were living at was taken, so he had to find a place for him to stay.

He searched for a long while before renting an apartment, a fitting place for a loner like him. But the problem was that he neighbors a noisy Old man, a total criticism machine to say the least.

He had only stepped on the old man's garden once, but Oren truly learned how wrong the saying ‘one foot at the grave’ was, as the old man nagged his ears clean and was so hard to deal with!

‘Hehe,’ Oren couldn't help but feel close to the old sac of bones, he was truly someone you can't hate.

‘I wonder what he's fetching at the moment…’

Oren also had to find a work for a living, but luckily, he met an egoist who accepted his weird self. The pay was okay, even though the manager liked blabbering too much. Oren thought that since his life was already filled with nagging, adding one more session isn't at all that demanding.

Just like that, his day spiraled into a new direction, his only plan for the future was to graduate and obtain his degree, find a peaceful job and continue his mundane life. Aprefect goal for an introverted lazy weirdo like him.

  Or so Oren thought.

Just why in the world’sake did that boxed bastard have to ruin the stability of his life?!

  Life sure is unpredictable!

Oren looked unwillingly at the dark Sky, the stars shining with bright intensity.

He will die and no one will remember him… Oren felt empty inside as the realization sank deeper into his soul.

His heart squeezed the last amount of power it held within, the blood evacuating his vessels and sipping to the ground, the coldness is all he could feel.

He quit hearing the surroundings a long time ago.

His eyes felt drowsy as they began to slowly close, the shine and luster in his black pupils fading into the dimness of loneliness.

At his last breath, the last thing Oren Fregan thought of was his gaping regret.

“If only I could blast that bastard’s head, that would be a satisfyingly exciting thing to see…”

Truly, what a disgraceful way to die…

A foot gently stepped on the harsh ground, breaking the gloomy silence of the wide street.
