Does the future have flying cars?

  Log III

  2015 | June | 12th | Friday

“We are… just your imagination?” Sea-Jay answered to the girl in panic. “Can’t be, I’m as creative as a rock. What even are you? Are you some sort of cartoon duck? And is that a robot?” the girl asked them. To correct her, the robot responded “I personally find rocks pretty creative.”.

Sea-Jay grabbed the robot by its plates and turned it around. He started to whisper “W   hat do we do? What are the time travelling rules?”. “Honestly, I don’t know mate.” The robot replied. “You’re a time machine, how can you not know?” Sea-Jay was getting louder, to the point where the girl could clearly listen to their conversation. By saying “Let’s just tell her. She probably won’t believe us anyways.” The robot ended the conversation between the two.

“We’re from the future. I’m a Seagull and that’s a time traveling robot.” Sea-Jay explained to the girl with a blank expression. To the twos surprise, the girl instantly believed their every word. “Actually? That’s awesome! Tell me, do Koalas still exist in the future?” the girl seemed really excited. “What the hell is a koala?” Sea-Jay quietly asked the robot. “A ain’t got a single clue.” The robot whispered in return.

They looked at each other, then back to the girl. “Can you tell me the winning numbers for the lottery? Are smartphones still a thing? Is the Wii U still a thing?” the girl didn’t seem bothered at them not answering the questions, as she kept asking more “What time are you from? Are flying cars a thing? Have humans been to mars? Oh my god. Do humans still exist?”. After processing all the questions, the robot just answered the last one “Humans still exist.”.

“So, what are you two doing in 2015 then?” the girl asked. The robot replied “We are just taking a tour of the time period? Yeah, we’re doing that.”. “He wanted to prove that he can time travel. So, we ended up here.” Sea-Jay corrected.

“Why? Hold up, don’t tell me there’s some major historic event going on today! Is some one getting assassinated?” it seemed the girl wouldn’t stop asking questions. The question however, got Sea-Jay curious, as he turned his gaze towards the robot and added to the question “I actually don’t know. Robot, why did you send us to the one place that gets blown up?”. “What do you mean?” the girl asked Sea-Jay. He, however, just ignored her and focused on the robot.

“Well, I put in the settings, the year that was 500 years ago, on earth, in a place populated with humans. I didn’t really think about us landing in Australia right before it gets blown up.” The robot responded. The girl asked again “What do you mean, gets blown up?!?”.

Sea-Jay “Great job, man. Whatever. Now that we have a human here, we might as well ask her out for some information too. How is the third world war going?”.

The girl answered him “What world war? There isn’t a third world war going on, as far as I know.”.

The robot talked to itself for a second “How is that possible…”. For a third time, the girl repeated to them “So what is up with this “gets blown up” thing?”. “Don’t worry about that,” the robot started explaining “as long as there’s no world war, Australia shouldn’t get blown up.”. “Uh huh…” the girl said.

The three stood there in silence once more.

“We’re gonna get going…” Sea-Jay said. Him and the robot slowly started backing out of the alley. The girl just looked at them with sadness, slowly lowering her eyes towards the ground. She took a look at the dumpster she was behind earlier and then back at the two. “Hold on!” she yelled. She proceeded to take a deep breath and continued “I want to come with you two, into the future.”.

The robot chuckled “Are you mental? Do you realize the amount of time line troubles this could cause?”. “If you don’t… then I’ll tell everyone about you two, then they’ll send you to area 51. How many timeline problems would that cause, huh?” the girl threatened them.

“We two need a quick talk between two eyes and a screen, if you’d excuse us, ahaha-.” Sea-Jay told her. He then whispered into the robot’s lens “We don’t actually know if taking her to the future will actually cause any problems. Or, at least we can pretend like we’ll take her with us, until your batteries are charged again, then well just leave her here and go back home.”. “No way I’m taking her to the future with us. I like your second idea though. I even have something else we can do, in addition to that.” The robot told him.

The robot announced “We have decided. You can come with us, under one condition.”. “What’s the condition?” the girl curiously asked the two with a smile. “It’s pretty simple, really. You just gotta supply us with food. Until my batteries are recharged, to get us to back to the present.”. “Deal!” the girl instantly responded.

“I’m Olivia, what are your names?” the girl asked them happily. “I am Sea-Jay.” He spoke, “And I am Timethy. Like Timothy, but with an e instead of an o.” the robot replied. “You have a name?!?” Sea-Jay was in shock.

Timethy “Why are you such an idiot… Now, you, Olivia, just show up two times a day with a bottle of water and some food for the both of us. That’s all you have to do.”. Olivia fixed her bag on her shoulders and nodded. “I’ll get the two of you some food right away.” She promised and ran off. As she did, she also told them “Just wait here for me, alright?”. The robot said, with a faked smile on its screen “of course, of course.”.

Timethy and Sea-Jay just stood around for a while. In silence, Sea-Jay started eating away on his apple, breaking small bits of it apart, with his beak and then swallowing the small parts down in one go. He complained to Timethy “Disgusting, apples, disgusting, I tell you. They’re both to hard but also to soft and the texture is pretty boring too. Not to forget it has the most generic taste. I don’t get why people like them.”. Timethy responded “I, on the other hand, enjoy myself an apple.”, he opened a compartment in his head and threw his apple in there.

Curiously, Sea-Jay asked it “Why do you have to eat food?”. “I recharge my batteries with it. My actual batteries, not my time- or space-batteries.” The robot told him. “Ah.” Sea-Jay said, secretly having hoped he’d get a more interesting answer.

Timethy “Anyways, let’s make ourselves a place to rest. Let’s just go behind the dumpster, that way we can make sure that nobody discovers us.”. Behind, said dumpster, the two made space for themselves, pushing boxes full of junk, an old chair and some smaller things, like an envelope and an old rusty knife.

Sea-Jay “Some pretty odd stuffs here.”. The girl, Olivia, wouldn’t be back for a few hours, so the two just sat behind the dumpster not exchanging a single word between each other, until the sun slowly went away and she returned.

“I’m back!” she exclaimed to them. “I got you two some more apples and a bag of chips.”. Immediately, Sea-Jay swiped the chips out of her hands and opened the bag. “Finally, some food I can enjoy.” He happily said.

Olivia “Now, I don’t have much time on my hands, I gotta get back home. I’ll be back tomorrow, alright?”. “Sounds good.” The robot replied as it waved her goodbye. She ran back off, waving back. Meanwhile, Sea-Jay was crunching down the chips, almost being done with the entire bag already.

After also drinking all the water, he quickly fell asleep. Timethy dragged him behind the dumpster, to the space they cleared out, so he’d be harder to see by somebody walking by.

As the night began, Timethy kept look out, to make sure nobody saw them. And the longer the night went on, the bigger got the robots boredom.
