Stage 1, Fourth Spell: The Origin of Extraordinary ~ A Simple Moment In Life

It was a random night in my twelfth summer when I discovered my... quirk. It was quite dumb, actually, I was reading a Lovecraft-inspired slice of life on my phone, my mind wandering elsewhere, then before I noticed it, I was floating in the middle of my room like I was lying on some kind of invisible hammok. Who would've thought that my Trigger Event would be reading about a girl-turned-Outer-Goddess accidentally mind-breaking her school's occult club.

Speaking of occult clubs, it turned out that my school did have one. Although one with only a single member. And she asked Maria and I to join. After we ran away from some kind of malevolent-mangled-corpse-yokai-thing, which was chasing us because it knew we could see it. That part was like that other story I was reading about a girl who could see spirits and ghosts and such and such, while her friend was a life force fountain and therefore attract evil spirits who wanted to eat her, but also different because she didn't have the ability to let others see the spirits, but Maria did.

So, as I had an established foundation on this kind of things (thanks to the aforementioned stories and hours of researching mythology and mysticism), I wrote down some of my theory on our... Capabilities, yeah.

First, me, I was Capable of flying and dodging things. Now, I know that sounded me, but I swear to gods, spirits, fairies, whoever I should swear to, bh bh bh, that I dodged a bullet once when I was a kid, literally dodged one. That time was... not a good time. I was going through my third existential crisis, which was about the meaning of my existence, when a shooter appeared. I thought they're only at the States...

Anyways, second, Usami, probably Capable of telekinesis from what I had seen, probably some divination too, as I saw her deck of tarot. I don't have much to say about her, seeing how we've only been acquainted for less than a day, her encounter with me and Maria the day before didn't count. Also,

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!" I had to scream my embarassment away as I remembered the feeling of her soft li- Nope, stop right there. Next up is her turn already.

Maria is Capable of sensing the supernatural, and probably allowing others to, too. Or, we were transported into the yokai equivalent of the Astral Pne. Or was that the Astral Pne and yokai lived there? I was still unsure as to how that worked... Okay, this might be a leap in logic, but what if her Capability was dispcement relying on sight? I mean, I was looking at her looking at Usami... A possibility. Or maybe I'm overthinking this and there was a spatial anomally where we were.

With that thought, I decided to go to sleep. After all, winter break was the next day, and I would have an entire week and a little more to dwell on this.

I should have known that that was wishful thinking. There was no time to think, only karaoke with Usami and Maria. The blonde was wearing the same dress as, um, that day, but instead of the goofy ribbon-shaped pin, she had an actual red ribbon around her just as goofy hat. The brunette, however, had on a purple pid skirt a few shades redder than Maria's, a matching vest over white blouse, a bck fedora and a, I kid you not, bck cape with red interior.

"Why are your fashion sense so weird?" I asked, unable to tear my eyes from Maria's li- 'STOP! What is wrong with me!?'

"Like you're to say." Usami shot back.

I looked down at my clothes.

"What's wrong with a shrine maiden outfit?" Did I mention that I was living in a shrine in exchange for taking care of it? No? Well now you know.

"Well, nothing. But that bow!" She pointed at the big red bow on my head. Well, that I could admit was being weird.

"Wait a moment," Maria interrupted our bickering, and the sheer ring of her voice made me tremble in exc- 'Okay, stop, focus on what she was saying first.'

"Genso-chan," I nearly lost control "You can fly, right?" I didn't trust my voice, so I nodded instead. "And you're a shrine maiden." That I needed to eborate on.

"W-Well, not exactly. But- but I do live at a shrine and ta-take care of it." Okay, three stumbles, not too bad. I hope.

"I... huh... I saw this coming." At this, both me and Usami, no, I think I can call her Sumireko now, leaned on the table, listening attentively.

"I have... dreams." We probably looked a little disappointed as she quickly added. "Of the future, I mean."

  Oh.

  Now that complicated things.

"Actually, it's more complex than that, but I'm not sure how to expin." She said after a minute's pause.

"Don't worry~ We have allllll day." Sumireko cheered, and I might have joined. I was having a good time with other people for the first time since forever. This probably was what I need, someone to pull me out of my mulling.

We ended up agreeing to meet again, this time at a pce where we could actually discuss our Capabilities more openly, namely, Sumi's house. I still haven't coined the term to them, but I think it would be well-received.

  It was not well-received.

Well, more like overshadowed by other suggestions until I said that we should have an unique term that felt like it could be used in everyday life to refer to them, not just "abilities" or "superpowers" or "extra sensory perception". First one was used too much, second one felt too... distance from real life, and the st one was literally just Sumi's Capability alone. Then I reflected on my thought process and found out that the word "capability" had "ability" in it. Damn.

Maybe I was biased toward vague concepts.
