Chapter 2 Reunion 2
Suddenly caught off guard by being called out by name, Nie Zhiyan instinctively nodded along with Du Hang's words and said, "Yes."
Chen Xiao patted her shoulder and said somewhat helplessly: "Zhiyan, I feel like you've withdrawn into your shell."
Nie Zhiyan mechanically repeated his previous action and said, "Yes."
The table fell silent for a moment before erupting into a burst of laughter.
Nie Zhen's ears turned slightly red.
"It's been seven years since we last met, and you're still so lovely."
Nie Zhiyan nodded woodenly, "Yes."
Everyone at the table was laughing with abandon, except for him, Lu Yiheng.
Nie Zhiyan silently lowered his head and took a sip of beer, furrowing his brow in distaste at the bitterness.
It was already after 8 pm when they came out of the lively new house, and the night wind was very strong. Nie Zhiyan's long hair was blown up, and she stood at the hotel entrance waiting for a taxi.
A black Audi suddenly stopped at her feet, Nie Zhiyan was startled and took a few steps back, looking into the car with some annoyance, the window slowly rolled down, and Lu Yiheng's cold profile fell into her line of sight.
Nie Zhiyan's words made him feel defeated and he lowered his head, kicking at the stone steps beside his feet in boredom.
"Get in." His voice was as cold as his demeanor, almost chilling.
Is this really the sunny and handsome boy she knew? Nie Zhiyan couldn't help but doubt at this moment.
"I'll just take a taxi." Nie Ziyu said in a low voice, thinking to himself that if he sat in the same car with him, he would probably freeze to death, the temperature was already low enough.
Lu Yi Hong didn't even look at her, "Don't make me say it a third time, get in the car."
Nie Zhiyan pouted and reluctantly opened the car door to get in.
What exactly did she do to offend him? It's really incomprehensible.
"Address."
"Gulf Hotel," Nie said cautiously, glancing at him, "It's very far away. Otherwise, you can drop me off and I'll take a taxi myself."
It takes an hour's drive.
Staying in a confined space with this iceberg for an hour, Nie Zhiyan was afraid of suffocating to death, her life was very valuable after all.
However, Lu Yiheng didn't give her any reaction and they traveled in silence.
Nie's words made her drowsy, and she began to feel sleepy, even though she had tried her best to keep herself awake, silently reciting many times in her heart that she couldn't sleep, but ultimately still fell under the invasion of the overwhelming drowsiness.
Nie Ziyu fell asleep leaning against the back of the chair.
The car was shaking back and forth, her head nodding like a chicken pecking at wood.
Lu Yiheng turned off the air conditioner with a wave of his hand and slowed down the car.
The night view outside the window is slowly passing by, just like the passage of time over the years. Although I can see the hands moving, it seems slow, but after all, so many years have passed.
The atmosphere in the car is very quiet.
When he slowly woke up from his sleep with a confused expression, the car had already stopped in the hotel's parking lot.
Nie Zhiyan opened her eyes and saw Lu Yiheng's cold and stern profile, just like many years ago, when she would turn her head slightly, it was his face.
Silent, smiling, calm, sunny, many kinds of expressions.
Nie Zhen's words left him momentarily stunned.
It took her a while to come back to herself.
Nie Zhiyan glanced at the time and exclaimed, "It's already past eleven o'clock, why didn't you wake me up?"
Lu Yiheng leaned against the backrest, his eyes staring at the front windshield, but he didn't know what he was looking at.
Nie Zhiyan couldn't understand him and didn't know why she had a feeling that he was very lonely.
It was a long time before she heard him say, "Get off the bus."
Nie Zhiyan opened the car door as if he had been released from prison, bowed his head and said thank you, then quickly ran towards the hotel entrance.
Watching her eager back shadow leave, Lu Yiheng smiled self-deprecatingly.
Nie Zhiyan returned to his aunt's house the next day and then started looking for a job by sending out resumes.
Unexpectedly, the resume she sent out got a response the next day. It was a magazine company recruiting translators, which happened to match her major in English and French.
Nie Zhen's words were immediately contacted by the personnel department of the magazine, and then interviewed.
Standing in the spacious personnel recruitment office, Nie Zhiyan's smile was warm and gentle.
"Have you been abroad for six years?" asked the director with a warm and powerful smile in English.
"Yes, in France." Ní answered in French.
"Why did you suddenly come back?" The director asked in French.
Why did she suddenly come back? Nie Zhiyan thought that she would always have to come back, because there were too many things here that she couldn't bear to part with - her childhood and the deepest memories in her heart.
Those memories that had tormented her tirelessly for seven whole years.
